I have the same problem, only mine is with Toopy & Binoo (Canadian cartoon). "Toopy! Toopy!" 24-7....

But that's a great idea about the sleeping. I will start telling him that.

I'll tell my toddler Elmo is sleeping so we can't watch him.

I'll also say to him "do you want to sing the Elmo song?" and start singing "la la la la..." Or read him a book about Elmo. Or draw him a picture of Elmo

Basically I try to appease his wanting to watch Elmo with other non-tv-related Elmo things.

I got him an Elmo doll too. So sometimes if he asks for the show I just fake ignorance and get him his doll.

I think getting an Elmo toy is a great idea and throwing a blanket over the TV might help as well. I don't know how old your DD is, but I think kids don't really have object permanence until around age 2 so hiding the TV might help her forget it's there.

If she is asking for it this might not help but I found that putting an interesting toy they haven't seen recently in front of the tv helps break the habit of them wanting to turn it on (For example, at one point after both kids were sick for a week the tv was unplugged and "not working" and the doll house was plopped right in front of it.) Oddly enough, putting a blanket over the tv seems to work well with most kids too, one child decided the tv must be taking a nap and that was it. I also wonder if getting an Elmo toy might help if she doesn't have one?

I'd like to hear answers to this as well only DS's addiction is to Curious George. Usually we go outside so seeing the TV isn't prompting him to ask.

My LO loves Elmo and she has finally gotten to the point where she will sit down and watch a half of a TV show before wandering around. It's awesome for me because I get severe migraines and now when I have a migraine I can get a break.

But now she ALWAYS wants Elmo. Always. It's always, "Elmo. Elmo. ELLLLMMMOOOO!" Of course I don't want her watching it constantly, so I say no Elmo and try to distract her. Not having her watch Elmo ever isn't an option, because I need that rest time when I don't feel well and she won't watch anything else.
