@MsLipGloss: That's true. I guess one just has to pay attention and hope that you would notice a change (like you did!) so that you can get necessary testing. As a mom, that's been my one fear -- that I will miss signs that something is wrong or unusual for my kids -- both the one still in utero and the one out. I try to stay on high alert without being overly paranoid.

I don't know but without any other indicators (like decreased movement), I don't think so. . .? What I do know is there was a special test thingy (sort of like tightly packed gauze) they used to determine if fluid was present. I don't know if there are any other tests/exams that could confirm a leak.

@MsLipGloss: Oh I hear ya on the thigh sweat these days. I am so hoping to go on time with this baby because I don't relish the thought of any additional hot days and the accompanying sweat. I wonder if a small fluid leak is something they could pick up on during a cervical check exam at the end of pregnancy or not?

@coopsmama: Yeah, I don't know for sure when the levels dropped dangerously low, but it took the u/s tech all of about 30 seconds to *hint* that I was not going home after my appointment!

@matador84: @coopsmama: I live in the South, and it was a really really hot August (LO was born September 1) . . . and despite the fact that my thighs had become BFFs and I was sweatier than usual, I knew there was no way that all of the wetness was just sweat. It was just too much all the time. And every once in a while, when I got up out of bed, I would feel the tiniest gush . . . but after the first test was negative, I just kept telling myself that that couldn't be it.

@MsLipGloss: Wow!! I'm so glad your LO was okay despite the low fluid for such an extended period of time. I guess that is an excellent reminder that a mama's intuition can be right and should always be investigated!

@MsLipGloss: So crazy. I wonder how often something like that happens. I have a friend who went into L&D on a Friday thinking her water might have broken, they even did a test for amniotic fluid, and sent her home. She leaked all weekend, her doctor admitted her on Tuesday and she delivered that day! The rate of infection was incredibly high at that point.

@coopsmama: The first time I thought I had a leak, I was tested, but the results came back negative (at 30 weeks). After that, I kept feeling like something was off, but dismissed it because of the negative test. At my 38 week appointment, I mentioned that LO had slowed down in her movements which prompted my OB to do some testing and ultimately an u/s which showed that I had just one pocket of fluid left. If I had to do it again, I would have showed up in L&D every stinkin' week after week 30 to see if I was leaking fluid. There was so little fluid left at 38 weeks that LO was starting to experience decels from cord compression.

@MsLipGloss: This is one of my worst fears - to have a slow leak and not realize it because of all the fluids (gross!!) that are present down there anyway. How did you figure it out?

Sounds like it! If it was a gush and still coming out. Exactly what happened with me. It was amazing how much came out and kept coming out during labor.

I thought I peed too. Do kind of a kegel, and if it doesn't squinch it off, it's probably your water broken.

I've heard one good to tell is to lay down and stand back it up and see if it gushes again. Or sit down and stand up, etc. Either way I would get checked out! Good luck.

Sounds like it! I smelled it, and it didn't really smell like anything, so apparently that is a sign. It can also smell sweet.
For me it kept gushing throughout the day. I was a little in denial that it had broken, and kept thinking I was peeing myself lol.

So I just had a gush of clear fluid and now it's seemed to slow down....was that my water breaking? Think I'll call the doctor, but thought I'd ask here first :)
