@Mrs.KMM: That's the way mine were with LO1. Now that my brother and I both have baby #2 in the first year of daycare they disappeared.

DD gave my mom stomach virus once, AND my mom had to take care of her for us (I asked her repeatedly if she wants me to just take a day off!). She was such as trooper!

My parents get sick pretty often after they see our kids. Partly because we live in different climates so just general allergies hit but they also aren't exposed to kid germs.

We don't visit usually if they are so much as sniffling or sneezing. My mom has caught colds from them and I felt really bad so we try to be careful.

My mom comes to watch H when she is sick since she can't go to school with a fever/throwing up. So my parents are fine with it, they wash hands a lot and change clothes before going home.

If anyone is sick, we cancel trips to my inlaws. My FIL has an extremely compromised immune system due to having Black Lung. If he gets a cold, he usually ends up in the hospital because it quickly turns into bronchitis/pneumonia and could kill him.

My mom avoids LO if he is sick (even a sniffle), but my ILs will want us to see us regardless. They've all gotten Noro from him, my mom is scarred for life - but my in laws couldn't care less. ILs are very much of the mindset that sick kids need extra snuggles and love, regardless of the outcome for them.

My mom is awesome because she watches our daughter twice a week and has no problem watching her if she's sick. However, I would not have her watch her if she were throwing up - would just stay home myself. This did happen this winter and I was relieved that they never got the bug.

My sister on the other hand does not seem to be very cautious with stomach bugs, we've gotten them from her kids a few times (when she already knew they were sick) and my mom was watching my nieces yesterday when one of them had been throwing up the night before! Hopefully my daughter doesn't get it (she's with my mom today). My husband had it yesterday too (saw my sisters kids this weekend!) so more of a chance to get it from him this time so not much we can do.

My husband's parents have both been having major health issues so we cancel trips to see them even if it's just a cold type illness. They live far away though so it just doesn't make sense to see them if we are not well, even if they weren't in poor health.

Xander gave norovirus to my entire family once too, so I feel you! It made my brother extra cautious when visiting us ("Is Xander sick? What does he have?") But my parents still came to visit normally! They'd rather see the kids and get sick than not see them!

None of our grandparents have gotten any colds or illnesses from DD yet (9 months old). I don't see any of them being phased by that though. Illnesses happen.

My parents visit us monthly and get colds pretty much every time they visit us. My in laws visit every three months. They bring a cold every time and swap colds with the kids.

This Christmas my mom got norovirus from one of the grandkids (who got it from mine). After that my parents decided to stay away for the rest of winter. I'm not sure when we'll see them again. I think that one crossed the line.

Do your parents and ILs get a lot of germs from LOs? How do they handle it?
