They pose no threat to dogs, unless said dog is dead. They are scavengers, so they only eat carrion (dead stuff). They're quite useful, actually. There would be a lot more roadkill carcasses lying around rotting (and posing a huge health threat) if it weren't for them! </p> <p>I am not exactly a vulture fan, but I think it should be recognized that they are actually quite useful. (Also, my introduction to them was when they were circling the top of a building full of lawyers. I never knew what exactly they wanted in my neighbor's yard but other than perching on top of the playset they stood in the same spot in the yard every time. It can be a fake owl like mentioned above, although I think they actually used dead vultures here! For a long time my next door neighbor had vultures hanging out in his yard and roosting on his play set and honestly it didn't stop until he tore down the playset. We saw them several days on our neighbors deck and then in the trees right behind our house, now on our deck. </p> <p>The wooded area is very small back there. Just a line of trees on either side of the stream.
