@78h2o: We have decided to check the car seats as luggage. My DH doesn't want to deal with so many bags through the airport and we have one layover as well. We bought the diono travel bags and my DH will practice before we leave so he knows what to do with it. I would suggest that you buy a cart since the diono is quite heavy. Good luck with your travel!

We have Radian 120s, so very similar seats, and our twins will be about 2 when we fly next year. I want to keep our kids and seats as safe as possible, so we'll be bringing the seats on board and kids will be in them as much as possible. We'll probably get one of the rolling racks that the car seats can attach to. The kids will either ride in that, or in ergos when moving through the airport. We're used to dealing with a lot of gear, so I think we can each handle a kid, an ergo, a pull cart, and a small carryon.

@BunnyDragon: Hmm, I too am planning for an upcoming trip in Dec. I will be traveling alone with LO and my flight is about 3 hrs. While I think it would be a lot easier to check the RXT as luggage, my plan is to have it gate checked. I'm too afraid it would fall of the luggage cart or not make it on the plane. Like you, I feel it has a better chance of making it and not getting damaged if it's checked at the gate. I just always have bad luck with checked luggage. There's also a small chance that maybe they'd let me take it on the plane if there's an open seat (at least that happened once with her infant car seat).

I'm just not sure whether to get a carrying bag, a luggage cart, or both? I am leaning towards a foldable luggage cart so I can wheel it and then maybe a big nylon laundry bag or something that I can put it into at the gate to keep it clean. I think I will also check her stroller at the gate, as I have always done in the past, but I am also considering checking it because at least it's not a safety device (so less of a concern if it's damaged). I have seen some people have their kids ride in the RXT when it is latched to the travel cart.... decisions, decisions!

We just flew with our RXT and put it in a Diono carseat bag, checked it as luggage. That thing is too heavy to lug through an airport, especially with babies. It held up great on 4 flights (I think the key is to buy a heavy duty carseat bag, not a flimsy one).

Gate checking and checking as baggage are really treated the same way, so for convenience, I would check as luggage. I use a car seat bag.

We are going to be flying for the first time with a convertible carseat in December. I bought the JL Childress Ultimate Car Seat Travel bag, and we will check our Radian as luggage (along with our pack n play).

My DH and I are flying for the first time with our 1 & 2 yrs. old next month.. We own two Diono Radian RXT, which we have to bring with us. My DH and I can't agree on what to do with the car seats. My DH wants to check them as luggage - he doesn't want to carry two car seats, carry on bags and two babies. I want to gate check them - I don't trust the luggage handlers to be careful with car seats. I don't want them damaged in any way! How do you air travel with Diono Radian RXT? Did you buy the Diono travel bag or something else? Please suggest away. I am so stressed just thinking about this trip :-(
