We started TTC in a very relaxed NTNP kind of way. I just stopped taking the pill and let the chips fall where they may, but probably had a little more sex than we usually would.

After 6 months I started actually consciously having sex every other day from CD10-the day AF arrived.

After a year I got a little obsessive. Charting, OPK's, changed my diet, got tons of testing done for both me and DH.

I was pretty relaxed at first. I just tracked my periods on an app and it estimated my fertile window. We got pregnant the second cycle with LO. I thought TTC for baby #2 was going to go similarly...and I took the same laid back approach for 5 cycles. Now I'm getting worried and trying to take control bc I'm going to be 35 next month and I don't want my kids to be too far apart. I bought OPKs (gave me O date same as the app I was using) and when that didn't work for cycle 6 I made an appointment to see my OB. I'm starting to obsess...

I originally went into it very relaxed and loosely tracking my period on a free app. I made my best guess at fertile days, but didn't really push anything. Since then, Ive slowly added more to the repertoire to try to understand.

I don't like the forced BDing, but I do like that I know we are going to stay connected on a regular basis. I don't mind OPKs and POAS, but I don't like the roller coaster of emotion you go through in that 5 mins til you get your results. I do like the hope and wonder and dreaming.

My biggest thing is realizing I can't put my life on hold while I'm TTC. If I had been pregnant the first month we tried, I'd be giving birth next month. So, I have to make TTC fit in my life. It's a priority, but it definitely doesn't run it.

We went into it very relaxed. I counted cycle days via an app to get a very general idea of fertile time, but otherwise we went with the flow. I was coming off years of bc, so I wanted to wait a few months to chart more thoroughly.

@drjolene: I could have written exActly what you did!

I'd love to be relaxed about this, but it just isn't my nature to wait and see what happens. Thus I am taking my temp each morning, peeing on many things, and checking CM. Zero-Sixty is kind of my jam, so I'm going with it because it feels good to have some sense of control during a period of time where I, in fact, have no control:).

Ideally I wanted to go into TTC with a relaxed attitude, just wait and see what happens for a few months. Reality is that I have a total Type A personality and it drives me crazy to not know things. I HAVE to know what's going on in my body or I get all antsy and fussy. My OCD about temping and charting and (soon) supplements and peeing on sticks is just a manifestation of my need to know. I know that my body will work at the pace it wants, but I just need things to DO in the mean time to understand what is going on in there.

I started off TTC in a very relaxed way. I thought it would just happen and I didn't want to have to worry about everything if it was just going to work out. So I had a few months of fun and then got a little stressed. After that, it became a bit more organized. I am also a bit OCD and like to obsess over details and planning, so I do a little of everything now: CM, temp, and OPKs. I also tried cervical position and ferning, but they didn't work for me (they worked, but just not as an indicator of ovulation!). Honestly I hate doing these things, but I knew that I would probably have to see an infertility specialist and I knew these would be the first things they would ask for. I was afraid that if I didn't have them, I would lose more time gathering that information, so I wanted to have it ready.

I like your approach and think it's a good one! If it works, then don't worry about the other stuff! Unless you enjoy it, it's not worth the extra stress or irritation to do all these things. I think though if things end up taking longer than planned, it's good to have as much information as possible. I hope it happens soon for you though and it can be a fun and relaxed experience :)

@snowjewelz: For some reason your first sentence made me laugh hysterically. I never really thought about it that way - "I wouldn't be peeing on all of this stuff if I wasn't TTC, I usually try to keep my distance from my pee."

We waited (for better or worse) until we were very ready for a baby. I considered TTC to be part of the whole "baby / going to party of 3 journey" and wanted to be able to confidently say that TTC (and thus the subsequent baby that I hoped would result from it) was something I was ready and wanted to make a (potentially big) part of my life. Whenever my alarm woke me up at 4 AM to temp (I'm a restless sleeper and that was the only time I knew I had 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep), I reminded myself that if this all worked out, middle of the night wake-ups would be my norm.

I guess I likened it to anything I've done while still living life - a job search, studying for my certification exam, etc. It needs to be in your focus, but you still have to live life. It's all about balance... and some days will be tougher than others. Like the day when AF shows up.... HA!

I hope that makes sense and doesn't come off wrong.

I would not be temping and charting and peeing on things if it was up to me, BUT I am very OCD about things, so when I go into a "project", it's always all or nothing. So in a way TTC fits into my life because it would be like me to have to know everything and organized and anal about all of it!

Does TTC fit into your life?
Or do you try to make your life fit into TTC?

Does that question make sense?

I was talking to my therapist today about wanting to make sure that TTC fits into my life. Of course, I'm charting like ALL things now (temping, ferning, OPKS, CM, Cervical Position), but mostly because I really enjoy it and find it interesting. What I don't enjoy is waking up to an alarm to temp. So I don't. I don't want to hold my urine for hours in the middle of a day for an OPK. So I don't.

My approach is loose and doesn't give me the most accurate information, but it does give me enough information to make informed decisions. After trying for over 6 months, perhaps my approach will change, but for now it's working. (And who knows...maybe after just reading the responses here I will alter my approach).

So I really want to get a little insight about your approach. Are there things you do that you don't like doing because you are TTC? Do you think it helps? Do you like some of the aspects of TTC?
