DH and I used to split the time; I'd usually take off the mornings, and he'd take off the afternoons. It sucks to still go to work when you're sick, but neither of us could afford to take off a whole week every time DD was sick (usually she'd be out at least a week at a time because of daycare rules).

Longest LO has been sick is 2 days. So far, DH and I both have flexible enough places of employment that we can split the days and work half day in office and half day at home or we just split and each take a day off to be with LO. However, even then we both work some from home while LO is napping.

Oh man! Having a sick one is HELL. Especially when you work. Luckily the hubs work(ed) afternoons only, so I didn't have to miss a whole day of work... but he's been out of daycare 4 days in a row due to fever.

Then I got sick..... the never ending cycle.

So far, my LO hasn't been in daycare for a week due to fever and bronchiolitis. My husband happened to have the week off(next week he works all overnight shifts) and has been able to take care of her. He is completely drained and we are all sick now! :-(

I just have to do my work when the LO goes to bed because she doesn't nap anymore. It is very tiring, and you fall way behind, but there's not really any other option for me. I just always pray that the LO stays healthy - for her sake and for mine because I am usually the one to take time off, not DH.

My 10 week old cousin has been sick in the hospital for 2 weeks. Both parents (who are doctors) have gone out on extended medical leave the whole time...so obviously not getting any work done whatsoever.

Yikes. I totally would have hired temporary help or flown my mom in if I were you! Hope everyone's starting to feel better now..
I don't have to worry about juggling work + sick baby. I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Recently Olive's nanny had to take a few personal days for her sick daughter, and Charlie caught a bad virus that resulted in a fever, two ear infections and bronchiolitis.

It's a pretty bad virus, because both Bee and I caught it! I can barely breathe due to congestion and the headaches and exhaustion have been draining. No wonder Charlie was such a bad boy for a few days!

Charlie or Olive have been without childcare for 10 days in a row. The upshot is that Bee and I have been brutalized trying to pull off both work and childcare (and recuperation). It's been really hard, and makes me question whether or not it's possible to balance work and kids. You think you're on top of things and pulling it all off, and then your kids get sick and you realize that you just lost 2 weeks of productivity (or more).

For those working parents with LOs in child care, what's the longest your LO has been sick and in your care? How did you balance work and kids?
