We are struggling as well. We are currently trying to sell two houses (and get them ready for sale) and buy a new house in addition to both of us working more than full time. The stress is ridiculous and the time has to come from somewhere. We need a date night, but don't have time or money for one right now. I've found that calling in extra help doesn't really help because you just have more bodies to manage.

The end result is insomnia and exhaustion. We've just decided to do the best we can and let the rest take care of itself. Sigh!

I hear you Mr. Bee it's definitely a hard juggle.

I have to admit I have not been great at it but my dear husband has been reminding me that it's imperative that we find time in our busy day for each other. If it weren't for him being proactive about it I think I would suck way more.

It's especially hard for us now because we're living between two houses. My husband has to balance a full time job, being a father, husband and working over at the new house so that our family can move in. I feel so bad for him!

Currently M falls asleep by 7:30/8:00pm and it takes an hour to put her down. It has been a godsend because before that it would take her about 2 hours and it was much later in the evening. In those days we basically barely saw each other and spent zippo time together in the evenings. Now while I go put M down my husband will get dinner started. Once she's done I'll come out and help with dinner. Then we actually get to enjoy dinner together!! It means eating really late but at least we're eating together. Then we'll usually watch an episode of something (usually True Blood) together.

It's hard because we're both definitely lacking in sleep. But like my husband said if we'll (consistently) rather get sleep than spend time with each other then there's a problem!

For the past week, Bee and I have made it a point to spend time together every evening after the kids are asleep. We've been hanging out, talking and watching a show together (Homeland) - all stuff we haven't had time to do regularly for a long time. It's been great!

However, I got to bed around 2 am the past few nights and Charlie has been waking up very early lately too. So I'm a zombie. I even fell asleep on the subway this morning! And I'm about to pass out at my desk.

Sometimes I feel like life is a zero sum game. If I increase my work effort, I have less time for family and wife. If I increase my time with wife, I have less time for work and family. It's a tough dynamic.

We've tried hiring more help but it doesn't really seem to help. The only solution I can come up with is to sleep less. That seems to work less well as I get older though.
