I throw a diaper in the Ergo pocket (and my wallet) I keep the diaper bag in the car.
And they do make a fanny pack! http://store.ergobaby.com/Backpacks_And_Pouches/Front_Pouch

My Ergo (performance) has the option to get a bag to clip on the bottom and it's large enough that I can put one diaper and some wipes in there just in case I need to change my youngest. I never use it for that though. I got it for when I have to go to the market and have to take both of my kids with me. I don't want to carry my diaper bag with me. Just need something to put my wallet, phone, and keys in there. My youngest hardly need to be changed when I go grocery shopping. Well, not like when he was a newborn.

@pastemoo: I've used the Skip Hop Via Backpack with both the Ergo and Beco Gemini. To get something out of the bag, yes, I have to take it off first.

I refuse to buy a diaper bag. I purchased a larger across the body purse that I can fit my diapers and portable changing pad in. I wear the purse beneath my baby ktan.

@shortcake: I use gDiapers, too. The size of your purse sounds like it is the size of my purse/diaper bag :) I usually bring an extra cover, 2 cloths and 1 disposable.
I am out nearly every day so it would be changing diapering systems if I switched.
I guess I just need a nice(r) purse. :)

Well, we live in NYC, so we sometimes walk for hours. If we are going to be out all day and not in car or someone's house with a kid, I bring some extras (an outfit, an extra gdiaper). But I use the disposable inserts in the gdiapers so it is probably a lot less to carry. What about using disposables just on days you are out a lot?

Oh, and yes I admit, my purse tends to be large. It can usually hold an ipad, flats, wallet, magazine, and tons of other junk.

@shortcake: How long do you stay out?
My old purses were the 7"x4" type "mini purses"--wouldn't hold a single cloth insert with my wallet and phone in there!
My current diaper bag is a "regular" sized purse that a friend gave me way back when. I carry 2 inserts but also 1 or 2 covers depending on how long we will be out.

we have a diaper bag we don't use anymore. honestly, i throw an extra insert or two (we cloth diaper) a small ziploc of wipes and some diaper cream in a big ziploc and throw that in my purse. i can see it getting harder when we need more stuff, like food, spoons, water, etc. but for now i just don't carry the diaper bag when we go out.

@NYCaliMama: What kind of carrier? Do you reach in while it is on or have to take it off to grab things?

@QBbride: I saw that at a local store and it is HUGE for my frame but otherwise it is super cute! I love the way the diaper changer is.

@MerryC:  Backpack?

Everyone is using a back pack! Huh. I am still definitely looking for a shoulder bag. In all my years of school I know I always overpack a back pack. I'm glad you ladies all found such great bags. :)
@runsyellowlites: :) I totally can't pull off a backpack. More power to you!
@edelweiss: I like all the jujube bags I've seen.
@MungBean: I've never seen that bag.
@winniebee: Someone totally does. As frumpy as I dress lately--I am too vain for a fanny pack. :P
@lemondrop:  :)

And.... what if you're carrying LO on your back, how do you carry the backpack?

A backpack is a great idea! I have a 12x12" shoulder bag, so I will throw a bottle, diaper, and wipes in along with my usual purse stuff. I leave the diaper bag in the car, just in case.

I frequently wear one of the kids in an ergo while we're out and my cross body and shoulder bags just didn't work. I currently use a daypack from LLBean. It has 2 main compartments each with pockets...I use the smaller for my stuff like wallet, cell phone and the larger for all the baby stuff.

@c.sassy: Ouch!! I am thinking I want a bag pretty much in that price range, too. :(
I want a leather one with a thin but strong strap so I can keep it tucked under the carrier strap.
And... I want it to have an option cross body strap.
AND I want it to have all compartments that close.

It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. A very expensive haystack of expensive straw!

I've yet to find a good bag for babywearing. Well, I did find a bag once made specifically for babywearing. It was made out of a wrap and was beautiful - not weird/hippie/cutesy as some of that stuff can be. Alas, it was upwards of $300.

I always carry a diaper bag because I like to walk and to be as far from my car as possible.

And because I babywear (and because I'm tiny and "real" diaper bags are so huge) I still haven't found a diaper bag for me.

When I carry my current purse "diaper bag" I either use the cross body strap across both shoulders OVER the carrier straps, or with the smaller straps on one shoulder underneath the carrier strap.

How do you carry diapers when babywearing (or do you only babywear for short excursions when you can leave the diaper bag at home)?
