I have also cleaned my parents' stairs multiple times as well. It looks so dirty but we never wear shoes upstairs! My BIL used to clean carpets and he said a rug doctor will work but recommended spending like 20mins per step which is just too much for us to manage right now. He said the dirt really gets ground down into the bottom layers and that to help keep it at bay we can vacuum each step for a longer period of time as well. I think its just transferring under our slippers from the entryway. The dirt on the carpet is mainly on the edges/corners of each step. I wonder if a rug doctor will work for that? How do you clean your stairs? </p>
