Jax will now pull a dining room chair over to the kitchen counter, climb on top of it, use the cross bars on the back of the chair as a ladder to get on top of the kitchen counter, in the same amount of time it takes me to pee! :/ It's terrifying. I haven't been able to find any resolutions.

For us we somewhat let her have the freedom to explore. I made sure it wasn't always no, no, no. Partly because she was going to find a way to climb somewhere anyways so I wanted her to have skills and partly so she'd take me seriously when I did say NO. We help teach her to get down as well as to get up.

There have been some bumps and bruises but those bruises have helped her get some level of fear and caution, which she had zero before. And when we let her have the freedom to explore it's always in a way where the worst that could happen is she falls at a low height and gets a bruise. For other stuff she's supervised with our hands right there and she gets a strong No and time out if she's caught being a danger girl while we're not by her to help.

@BabyBoecksMom: bumping. LO is 8 months and recently climbed atop his PBK chair and was trying to scale the bookshelves :( No one in my family has had a climber and frankly, I'm terrified that his reaction is to go over and up.

One thing we have been doing is teaching him how to safely get down. At least then we don't have to jump up and rescue him. My heart attack story was when he 11 months old (couldn't even walk yet) and we had the 3 step step ladder out. I went pee and I come out to him at the top of it. Yeah I pretty much died right there. But now, we don't worry as much about him.

His thing now is jumping. He thinks getting on the couch and jumping as close to the edge as possible is fun. Or jumping to the wall at swim lessons before jumping off.

DD is a serious climber. I don't know if it's just a phase that every kid goes through, but she seems to think everything is an obstacle that must be climbed. I just watched the webcam at daycare and she had climbed on top of the bookshelf and was reaching for some toys. (Her teachers were helping other kids at the time and this literally took her 3 sec to climb up).

She climbs everything. Last weekend, DH said he turned around and she had climbed up to the 4th step on his ladder. Obviously we can't hover over her at all times... but is there any way to curb this so I don't have a heart attack at 30???
