@locavore_mama: I off the heat and then crack the egg straight in. If it's for me I will stir till combined but if its for the kids I may put it back on the heat after stirring to cook the egg a bit more. Just depends on how you like the consistency. Yum now I want oatmeal... :-)

I toast steel cut oats in a dab of butter. Add milk and water and then bake it. It takes an hour but I'm not standing at the stove stirring.

I don't cook it. I use both steel cut or thick cut and just soak overnight in milk. 1/2 c oats to 3/4c milk.

Old fashioned oats in the microwave for me! 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup water, and a splash of half and half in the microwave for 2 minutes.

Then I'll usually put in a teaspoon of sugar, tablespoon of peanut butter, and a tablespoon of choc chips. yum!

Or sometimes I'll dice up half an apple (put it in before the microwave) and add cinnamon and sugar after the microwave.

i've been doing overnight refrigerator oatmeal:
http://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal

i don't use a mason jar, just an old honey jar, and make a batch for several days at a time. i use more milk than yogurt. i haven't used the chia seeds. i usually sprinkle dried cherries and sliced almonds on top.

i know this sounds weird, but growing up we treated oatmeal like grits--more savory. so we would cook them with milk, and crumble bacon on top. love it!

@scg00387: I do that too. :) But only do that about once a month since LO makes too much of a mess feeding herself and DH doesn't like oatmeal so will only eat it once a week.

Old-fashioned oats, usually half milk/half water, and brown sugar. Dried fruit if we have it--cranberries are my favorite.

When I make it for E I stir in applesauce.

I don't use steel cut so I just microwave the old fashioned oats every morning then I had peanut butter and sometimes honey and cinnamon.

I have oatmeal about 4-5x a week for breakfast. I use old fashioned oats. On the weekend I cook it with half milk, half water, a little brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. For LO I will add fruit but I like mine as is. On the weekdays I do the fridge oats, I soak them overnight in either whole or almond milk and add cinnamon, chopped almonds, and blueberries or just cinnamon and honey. I usually take it out of the fridge and nuke it a little just to get it closer to room temp.

I only make steel cut oats so it takes a little more effort. Therefore I only make it once a week on the weekends. Generally I grind the oats then cook with milk. Sometimes I will grate in some fresh cinnamon, a dash of brown sugar and some fresh blueberries. Other times it's homemade applesauce and brown sugar.

Looking for more ideas! What do you put into your oatmeal?
