I have the groomers do it. She has to be groomed about every 6-8 weeks, and it is included in the grooming package. She has black nails, and I am afraid to do it myself. She acted like I was killing her when I tried to clip them myself when she was a puppy.

I do it myself. I've clipped both of my cat's claws since they were kittens, so they're used to it now.

I actually hold them like a baby on my lap (belly up LOL) to do it. Then they get a treat after, so they're always well behaved.

My dog didn't mind it 'til I cut her quick one time. I felt so guilty. She tolerates it now but visibly flinches while I'm cutting the nails. I put a treat in front of her and tell her to "leave it". She focuses on the treat which helps. After doing her front paws she gets the treat. Then we repeat the process for the back paws. Not too hard but she's well behaved too. I cut our friends dogs nails sometimes as he freaks out and I'm the only person besides the vet/groomer who can do it.

We clip our pets nails, but it does take both DH and I. Our dog didn't mind it so much when we tried to block him from watching. The noise is what mostly startled him. One of our cats doesn't mind as long as we pet him in the process. Our other cat hates it, but we will wrap her in a blanket to restrain her.

Nail grinding at the groomers. I used to clip them at home. We have smaller-ish dogs (a beagler terrier and a yorkie). The beagle was always harder to wrangle to get them done, but they were both usually pretty good about it. I just got lazy and it's so much easier and less sharper with the nail grinding!

I'll ask the groomers to do it. I'm afraid of hurting them. My one dog has front paw sensitivity so she hates it.

I have a dremel grinder but I didn't do a good job sensitizing her with it. I should try again.

I think my other dog is probably fine with us doing it to him but he needs to be groomed so it's easier to have the groomers do it. Though, I don't think they cut his nails as short, so we might have to take him somewhere else or do it ourselves.

For one of our dogs, DH holds her and feeds her kibble while I cut her nails. The other dog does not like having her paws touched at all, and will snap, growl and bite when we try to cut her nails. So we get them done at the vet or when we take her to doggy daycare, for some reason she is fine when others do it.

DH is allowed to do it anymore - he cut her :crying:

Our vet told us to Dremel her nails regularly starting when she was a pup. The first few times she hated it and it took two of us (one to hold and bribe with treats). Now she doesn't mind at all and looks forward to a nice treat after. We alternate between the Dremel and clippers.

We don't. My Dogs nails are black which makes it really hard trimming it without knowing where the quick is and once I made him bleed. The groomer even made him bleed once cutting too far so now we only have the groomers do the sander on him.

Both our dogs are pretty well trained so I can do them myself - although the younger one gets too excited and is squirmy and the older one starts to get nervous because I've cut his quick a couple times (over the course of 5 years!) and he never forgot. So its easier when DH helps. We keep peanut butter jars that we've used up but still have some residue for them to lick. Keeps them focused for long enough without giving them a pound of treats!

We just have the groomer do the dogs' nails. I don't know how, and I don't really care to learn since they can do it so much more easily. The littler one especially hates to be restrained, so better to have it all done at once when he's already dealing with it at the groomer.

The cat used to have to be wrapped in a towel, and I'd pull out one paw at a time. These days she's old and just doesn't care, so I just clip them, no problems.

I hate cutting my dog's nails! They are black and I cut her quick accidentally one time and she's been horrible ever since. Don't blame her, though. The vet said that they use canned spray cheese on the floor to get her to stay still. But last time it didn't work as well. :(

My cats are fairly easy though, except my bigger one likes to bite me if I take too long. Lol.
