Ooh and I forgot to say sometimes we throw money at the problem, sort of. We buy repeat toys of certain things. And just like when lo1 was a little toddler, we gently enforce boundaries even if she's throwing a tantrum. (Same for lo2.)

We have been very lucky in that the first 1.5 or so years haven't been too bad, but I am noticing that while dd has been home on break before starting a new school ds has been kind of annoying her more, but honestly I think the solution will happen when she's back in school with friends her age. We also moved into a bigger house so we were able to set up her desk/craft area and she can go and close the door to keep him out. We are also careful about not allowing certain behaviors out of ds toward her just because he's the baby. Well, we try our best anyway. And when we do have to explain that he doesn't know how to behave a certain way we always emphasize the positives of how she is a big girl. Overall it seems like they just need that balance of time together and time apart and they do well.

We praise positive interactions and tell my older one all the time that he's a good big brother. I also police a lot of their interactions, while I think my parents let the kids sort it out. But if one tries to take the other's toys I make them give it back (while reminding LO1 that whatever he plays with will be interesting really interesting to LO2).

I will chastise LO1 if he says mean things and ask if that's a nice thing to say. And absolutely no physical roughness. Intentional pushing would be an automatic timeout.

But overall they adore each other so we only have sporadic outbursts that need to be dealt with.

My 5 yo DD can be SO mean to my 2 yo DS. Daily shell say she doesn't like him, she doesn't want a brother. She bosses him around, steals his toys, pushes him, etc. It is so hard for me to handle, partly bc it reminds me of the way my sister treated me when we were kids. Any tips on how you get thru it and how to foster a good relationship between them?
