@sarac and @pregnantbee, I've been doing protein pancakes in the morning. I make one batch (have half at 6am, the other half at 9am), and that's about 50 grams right there. I snack on cottage cheese or chicken breast of greek yogurt. I'll do protein shakes that are 1 cup liquid egg whites plus 1 scoop protein powder (35 grams)....plus the usual, chicken, turkey burger patties, ezekiel bread, etc. Sometimes a quest protein bar (20 grams). I've scheduled times for my meals at 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm, and dinnertime, and i make sure there is protein at every single one of them. If i have anything after 6pm, it's usually a protein shake before bed. I got a lot of ideas off bodybuilding.com for food

@blackbird: What do you eat that comes with that much protein? Always looking for ways to add more.

As for the original question, I either try to distract myself or just have it because that's better for me than eating 5 other things that I'm not craving and then eat the thing I am craving too.

But seriously, if I'm having a craving, I ask 'why?'. If I'm craving carbs, is it because I've stepped up my exercise and my body wants them? If I'm hungry after a meal, is it because I haven't eaten enough today, or did I not have enough protein? If I'm craving an orange julius, do I need some vitamin C? Cravings exist to tell us something, and usually we ought to listen to them.

I know that I don't have much willpower, so I've had to structure my dieting in ways that work for me. This means keeping junk food out of the house, eating a ton of protein, and exercising enough that it dulls my appetite and also gives me lots of extra calories to eat back. This has been one million times more successful than just telling myself 'no, be strong, you can do this'.

I just started trying to lose a little weight. I eat whatever I want to a certain calorie point. Works for me! I don't sustain constraints.

During the holidays I was SO bad at this, but usually I try not to keep the bad stuff in the house. If there is something I really want I try to think of what part of it I'm craving. So instead of chocolate I have an apple and peanut butter to get the sugar boost. Having apples on hand helps a lot, I eat them a lot mid-afternoon. I read something once that said to ask yourself "Am I hungry enough to eat an apple?" If not then you're probably not hungry (easier said than done - ha!).

Well, at the moment, I just give in and eat all the foods. But pre-pregnancy, I'd drink water or chew gum!

Put them in my mind vice and CRUSH IT.

Okay realistically, I have a few tricks. I have been focusing on how cravings are not part of my goal and won't help me achieve it. I keep telling myself I am stronger than that craving and I distract myself. Work out, do something. I schedule in a little wine every week so i can look forward to it. "i don't need it today, I'm having it tomorrow. I'm going to earn it. I am an adult, I can wait". I don't keep stuff around, and I am far too lazy to go get it and spend money on it. I also find that because I am eating SO MUCH PROTEIN (185 grams a DAY) right now, it really quashes a lot of my cravings. I'm really amazed at that. The cravings are, so far, short lived and I've been able to really avoid doing some damage. It's more of a game to me to try to hit my numbers on calories, carbs, fats, and proteins, so I don't want to jeopardize it by eating junk that'll ruin my score. Or i picture myself in a swimsuit on the beach to keep me on track. It's a big mind game sometimes.

I try not to keep stuff in the house. But if I have a super craving for something I just usually give in. But I try to keep it in moderation.

I bargain with myself, mostly with fruit & water - as in, "I'll eat an apple & drink a cup of water now, and if I'm still craving x in 45 minutes, I'll eat it." Usually, it fills me up enough that I won't feel the craving as strongly... but if I still want it after enough time has elapsed, I usually just go and have whatever I'm craving. It's usually not as good as I'd anticipated since I'm already pretty full!

I don't! haha

I usually have a little of what I want!

If its chips I eat the Kellogs chips (27 chips for like 100 calories!) or 1 tbsp. of choc chips and I eat them one at a time.
For me its more moderation - I have found I just cant cut out all sweets and stuff

I just don't keep anything unhealthy in the house. To me it's not worth it to load LO up and drive wherever just for the craving. Though sometimes I impulse buy junk when I'm already at the store and end up giving in!
