First, everything goes on a list on my phone so they're not just swirling in my head! Second, I have different priority lists.. Stuff that needs to get done today, this week, later, etc. Third, I have an excel week at a glance kinda calendar so the immediate things I have to do I actually put it in a day/time slot to ensure I'll do it.

For work I use a planner so I can map out each day. I try to be realistic and give myself only what I can reasonably get done in one day because if I get overwhelmed I sort of shut down.

At home, I keep a list on the fridge for odd jobs. DH and I have different days off, so if it's written down and visible, it's more likely he'll help out.

For regular chores, I just keep a schedule and do things on certain days

For work stuff, I created a daily schedule of todos that I do in a specific order each day. It really helps remove the element of choice - because if I had a choice, I wouldn't do any of this stuff, ever!

What about using one of those big monthly calendar blotters?

Assign stuff a day to execute it, even if it has no urgency on that particular day. I find that I never accomplish stuff to get done this month or week, but a task assigned to a day I will
complete.

@gingerbebe: I already do some things every day (dishes) and some things weekly (laundry has a set day), but it's everything else. I work from home pt too so I have business paperwork to file and enter, misc cleaning to do, lesson planning, etc. It's those things that I have a hard time setting a weekly schedule for. In theory I guess they should happen every week but it doesn't happen even in my pretty organized world.

@HappyBaker: I like the idea of having a few things each day. I tried using one note for my lists for a while but I just stopped checking them. I think I really need physical notes. I might need to start planning out my weeks on paper again.

@MrsBrewer: I do this for meal planning already with a big list of food prep that needs to get done. Maybe I need to make another one for everything else.

I think about efficiency of movements. So when I'm folding laundry, I map the drop points in my head so that I'm not walking back and forth between rooms and go in a way that takes the shortest route. If I'm going from one room to another I automatically think if there's something I need to move to that room or bring back, etc. I also try to be "done" with a room when I leave it - so make the bed, tidy it up, close the closet door, etc.

At night I always try to reset for the next day before going to bed. Daycare bags, coffee set, laundry put away, etc. It helps reduce low grade anxiety and I can sleep better.

I try to be a day ahead on meals. I prefer to cook in advance and reheat instead of cooking things from scratch that night.

The only lists I keep anymore are groceries and meal plans. We try to keep a pretty consistent daily routine here so there's less to remember to do. I do laundry daily, dishes get done every day, DH and I do a quick pick up at night after the kids are in bed, our housecleaner comes twice a month, and ROOMBA and Lysol wipes handle the interim. Appointments just go into our family Google calendar.

@brownepiano: I use the app Wunderlist too. I can not function as a human with everything floating in my head, it needs to be written down somewhere! I like Wunderlist because I have it on my phone but also on my work and home computers, so its just always open and I add to it whenever something pops in my head. I have multiple lists going at all times.

The one key thing I've learned though that's helped me is my main "To Do" list only has 2-4 items on it that I am actually going to do THAT DAY. When the list has 40+ random things on it I get overwhelmed and just do nothing, but if I focus on what I actually want to do that day its way easier to actually get things done!

I use the ToDoist app for lists. I'm happy if I can do two or three chores a day depending on the day.

I put them in my phone in the Reminders app. It is especially good for small stuff that I just need to remember "later" (like if I'm at work and think of something that needs to be done at home) because I can schedule them and have it remind me. I set reminders for everything these days, even things like taking my pre-natals. I feel like it has freed up some of my brain space since I know my phone will remember even if I don't.

I still make the lists - usually as an iNote. Even if I don't look at it again, it gets the tasks out of my head, and takes away the pressure of having to remember everything.

I used the app Wunderlist for a while, but then I got pregnant and never used it again. It was great way to add reoccuring to-do items that happen each month and you can snooze items and remind you in a week.

I need redownload the app. Oh, I probably lost the app when I got a new phone. That's why.

This might be the type A in me, but I always have a running list in my head of everything that needs to be done and I have a hard time turning it off. That doesn't mean I get to everything! I used to write lists so that I could stop trying to remember it all, but I stopped actually checking my lists so I don't do that anymore.

How do you cope? What do you do to get things done and still allow your mind to relax?
