I bought a commercial grade roomba. It takes the edge off.
We have an Aussie, a Himalayan, and a short haired cat. Or tumbleweed situation is embarrassing.

I hope someone posts some life changing secrets here! We have a golden/lab/husky mix and we have dog hair tumbleweeds stuck to our baseboards within hours of cleaning them! We put up baby gates and keep him out of our bedrooms, but the hair seems to migrate. Blah. I hate feeling itchy from it all the time!

What works for us is the Dyson Animal vac, which I use daily. Also, I think having hardwood floors helps?

This is the story of my life, too. We have a yellow lab (sheds constantly and everywhere!) and since the day we brought the baby home, my anxiety has been on high because of the dog fur. I feel like I spend my entire life cleaning up and can truly never relax.

We vacuum frequently (like 2-3 times per week) but hair accumulates under the "extra" couch where he sleeps during the day, on our bed where he sleeps at night (I know, I know...), and just about everywhere else. We have light colored hardwood floors, but when the light shines on them in the right way, all I can see is a layer of short blond hair.

I am just trying to make peace with it. Our house is very small so there is no where to block him off. I love him and could not imagine my life without him, but I just wish he shed less!

Good luck with your shedding situation :) I wish I could give you some more advice!

We have an Aussie who sheds a lot! We just deal with it. I do have the playroom gated off so when the kids were little that was a hair free zone!

If they get dog hair on their clothes just change them before they go down for a nap or bedtime.

I do vacuum 2-3 times a week.

We have the same problem. It killed me when she was crawling around on the carpet and had tons of hair on her. I tried to vacuum at least every other night, but I still fail. I think we just decided that it's part of our life. :-(

We just accept that pet hair is a part of our lives- we have a white dog and orange cat, so I just don't bother to wear black. Babies and clothes wash, it will never be perfect so we don't bother to limit where they are allowed. We use the Dyson Animal vac frequently, and put sheets over the couches that we change often since they are easier to wash and vac than the couches themselves.

@sorrycharlie: I have three large dogs - blue heeler, lab, and German shepherd and they shed tons! Before DS, they were the babies and I could keep up with vacuuming all the time. Well, that's not the case anymore! I did feel bad at first but something had to give. It's the kitchen or outside - isn't the kitchen better? I feel your pain :)

We have 2 dogs but only one of them sheds...I've considered shaving her bald....I don't understand how she still has hair though, it is literally everywhere and I vacuum/clean often.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh he doesn't even go on the couches! lol. it's the *floor* that is *disgusting*. the living room is a berber carpet so it holds the hair. so if he just walks around her play area, say, within 30 seconds it's a carpet of hair. which ends up all over her (then all over her flannel crib sheet..gag) and in her mouth, etc.

I see pictures and hear of people's dogs that just lay calmly with a toy or a bone..he paces constantly or stands and pants in my face. it's not even a bored/exercise thing because if you try to take him outside to play he won't. he's so strange.

no advice. Just lots of sympathy. We are in the same boat. I think our dog is planning her own doggie suicide. She hates her life now. Its even worse because J is allergic. I really think we need to find another home for her:(

Throw a hissy fit every so often? Seriously though if you've got tips I'd love them. I vacuum daily and lock the dog into the porch area (although the 2 cat still roam) while LO is awake, but I can't keep him clean from all the hair. Buying a microsuede couch that I can easily vacuum verses my old hair holder couch has been nice but not a cure all.

@sorrycharlie: Can you train him to not jump on the couches?

Both our cats are long haired but Maya sheds worse than Bailey. Every morning I ask DH why there is half a cat on the floor -- Maya sheds these massive furballs and I'm always left stunned that she isn't furless. So. Much. Hair.

@Mamasig: @Mrs. Jump Rope: I feel so horrible not letting in the gated area (because the couch is within that). he stands and stares in at us pitifully. but i just CAN'T DEAL with the hair anymore. he lays in one spot, doesn't move, and when he gets up there are literally mouse-sized furballs. wtf? I mean..it's better than leaving him outside in a gated enclosure right? not that I'd do that, just trying to make myself feel better that he has free reign of the house with the exception of the baby's room and some of the living room.

We have two cats and battle this problem on a daily basis! I have allergies and we decided to put in hardwood floors. This helped a lot -- it was really difficult to really, really clean the carpets.

We have made our bedroom and my office pet free, but they sometimes get into our bedroom anyway (Chloe opens the door!).. We move the furniture and vacuum under the bed a few times a month. I use a lint roller on our curtains throughout the house weekly.

Our couch is the worst. We have microfiber and it's like a magnet for cat hair. There's one spot that they love to lay and it's disgusting. I vacuum the couch every day, and sometimes use a lint roller on it again at night.

The cats are afraid of Chloe and haven't gone in her room since she was mobile. Before that, Bailey would sleep underneath her crib!

Lots of work. Pretty time consuming. It's insanely gross, though, so we stay on top of cleaning it.

I have a long haired dog. that sheds...horribly. and if we're going for total honesty here, I do not have time to brush him more than maybe weekly..which I don't do. bad, i know. but even when my husband brushes him - he sheds WORSE afterward. I can't win!

how do you deal with the hair? before baby, I just vacuumed daily and that was that. but now I'm dealing with her trying to eat dog hair, being covered in dog hair, her room being covered, pacifiers and toys being covered..her flannel crib sheet somehow getting dog hair all over it (from clothes?!)

we have 2/3 of the living room "gated off" with a super yard that she stays in, and he does not. so that area is somewhat clean, but I'd like to let her roam the house! if I don't vac daily (even if I do...) she ends up head to toe dog hair, which then ends up all over her bed, etc.. it's just a mess.

did you eventually just give up trying to keep your LO from being covered? do you have some secret you can fill me in on?
