I buy based on her interests, as well as what toy she will get the most out of. I got her a play kitchen because she loves the one at the library. We also got her a Minnie skills board because she loves Minnie and I think it's an educational toy that she will get use out of since she is interested in buckles and zippers etc. right now. I try to stay away from toys that require batteries and make noise if I can! I've had enough of that vtech woman!

I usually buy toys that I've seen DS play with a lot at school or friends' houses. And, also based on his current interests.

I buy toys mainly based on interactive play potential (as in with us) :silly: In other words, we get toys we actually want to play with, but we mainly try to build on the stuff she already has. She's interested in Legos, Sylvanian familes, trains, and little figures (MagiClips and Polly Pocket). But she's not very picky with toys, so anything is fine - for now this works.

I like buying from Fat Brain Toys when I have no idea what to buy my nephews. I like to read the reviews on Amazon but it's just aimless shopping there. On FBT, they categorize it and show me the high rated ones.

I am super selective, I really think it out. We have never done any plastic! I think that I might loosen up, though I love heirloom toys. She is really into cars and trains and trucks right now, so we are going with that!

DD is 1, I try to observe what she likes doing to see what toy she'd like. I find that she is just not into some of the popular toys.

I try to buy toys based on their interests, or even what I think will be fun to play with, haha. Xander's into Thomas and trains and has a small train set, so I'm buying him more train pieces, which I know he'll love. Plus they'll be fun for me too! And both kids like Megabloks, so even though we have a bunch, I got more for them. You can never have too many, right? Other things though, I just kind of guess and hope they like. I bought a couple simple games to start playing with Xander that got good reviews, so I'm hoping he likes them.

When choosing toys for your LO, how do you decide what toys to buy?

When the girls were younger I mostly based my purchases off what others suggested/reviews. I bought a lot of second hand toys so I would also base it off what seemed popular or fun while browsing. Some toys ended up being a flop though, so now I mostly buy based on their spoken interests. Or I will ask what they think of something. We have been buying character related stuff lately, but it definitely gets a lot of use. I bought some things (or my parents did) for Christmas that are not character related so I'm hoping they get good use, since these things will last through all of the phases!
