I use the frequency of blow outs. Once he starts to have more I have to go one size up. Now that his poop schedule's more predictable I just use the smaller ones for pee to use it up.

I usually buy diapers in smaller packages when we're almost going up a size, so I'll buy two in size 3 and one in size 4 and then just try the 4's every once in awhile and see how it goes. I really hate having too small diapers around!

@pastemoo: That's the thing, I buy from AmazonUK and although it was free shipping & return, they limit how much they reimburse you for shipping them back and it's crazy expensive to ship anything here, plus it's super heavy. I'm trying to convince DH to try and exchange the local brand one, but no one really returns/exchanges anything here ... it's weird! His initial response was to sell it online. Argh!

@Crumbs: You can usually return/exchange a smaller size for a bigger one if they are unopened. :)

I totally made the mistake of buying too much of size 2. I assumed she'd use up as many diapers a day like when she was a newborn. I really overshot it! I have 3 unopened packages of size 2, plus another bag of a local brand: that's 274 diapers plus some the ones already out! She'll be 3 months old on Friday and they're getting really tight ;(

If I were you, I'd definitely go a size up. They grow quick!

Edit: By size 2, I mean the sizes we have here: 3-6 kilos (6-13 lbs).

Even though ds isn't 16 lbs, he is in sz 3. They fit better than the 2's. So I would say size up!

could you just order a smaller package for now, since you might be close to switching sizes?

Daycare usually tells us, to be honest. We typically think he's fine (and he NEVER has leaks or blowouts), and then daycare says to go up, so we buy a new set for daycare and use up the rest of the old size at home.

Yeah the weight thing isnt a good gauge at all. My baby is quite tall but not so wide and right now her the number 2 size fits her fine, it doesnt leave any maks or anything. She gains about a pound a month too, so maybe I will order another size 2. I will wait a little longer to order since we still have some size 2s left.

I think it depends. M has been in size 3s for a while now and she's only almost 15lbs. I don't think the weight is a good gauge because just like adults babies wear the lb differently as well. We started 3s probably a week or two earlier than we could have but I was done with all the 2s I had stocked up on and I knew she wouldn't have finished a whole box. So I just went to the 3s I had. Daycare still had her in 2s when she should have went to a 3 so I had to tell them to go up in size. It was fitting snug, you can tell it was small and it was leaving red marks on her stomach.

I guess it depends on how fast she typically grows? I was in the same situation as you (LO was about 14.5 lbs and we had just finished up size 2s). She gains about a pound a month so I just bought another box of 2s. She moved up to 3s (Pampers Swaddlers) at a little over 15 lbs and it's fitting great. Maybe buy a smaller box if you're unsure?

Hmm...LO just started wearing size 3 at almost 19 lbs. I think another box of 2s will be fine!

This is one things I really dislike about disposables, not knowing when to go up a size. I like to buy the big box of 204 diapers and we are currently using size 2. LO is 5 months old and only weighs about 14.5lbs. I dont know if I should get another box of size 2 or if I should get size 3. I hate when the diapers get tight on her half way through the pack. I bought the size 2s before they fit her properly and they were huge on her!
