@Rubies: I hate cucumber too! The smell and the taste and the (slimy) texture... gross!!!

Neither of us have any dietary restrictions but we are both picky eaters. I know we'll have to go out of our way to provide a balanced diet to our LOs.

DH has some medical diet restrictions (not supposed to eat high fiber and whole grain foods). I try not to eat much white flour. Unless LO exhibits issues with whole grains, we will likely feed them closer to my diet, since it's healthier overall to eat that way if you have no issues.

The only thing I HATE is cucumber and I always tell the hubs that it's the one thing I won't ever feed LO (I really cannot stand the smell...I start to gag!). The hubs thinks I'm kidding but I'm serious. If the hubs wants to give it to her, then by all means he can...I just know that I won't! Other than that, we're good. :)

I think it is important to expose children to lots of foods and let them develop their preferences. I had a discussion about this once with a friend who is vegan...she started eliminating animal products because of her asthma and noticed a difference, then she became educated on the practices used to produce commercial meat and dairy. Now, she doesn't wear or consume any animal products at all. She said, when the time comes and she has a child that needs to eat table food, she will serve them a variety of things, including animal products because she doesn't want to rely on soy and meat analogs. I've shared many meals with her when I've had some meat, she handles it fine.

I think we'll be letting our LO make up his mind. My husband is a pescaterian (with very limited dairy) and I'm not. Right now, we eat his way most of the time because it's fine with me and it doesn't make sense to cook 2 meals. If we go out or if I really want something that he won't eat, I have whatever I want and he doesn't care.
The most important thing to both of us is that our LO learn healthy eating habits. I think there's a chance he will choose not to eat meat of his own accord. Hubs doesn't eat it because it doesn't do good things for his health, not out of any ideals and our kids may be the same.

Do you and your SO have different dietary preferences? One of you is a vegetarian, vegan, no red meat, keep kosher, etc. and the other person isn't/doesn't?

I'm not a pig eater. It's actually not because I keep kosher, I just have a love for pigs and don't want to eat them. My hubby loves his bacon. It grosses me out, but there's nothing I can do about it. And of course when my LO grows up, if she wants to eat bacon, I know I'll have no say.

I never pictured my LO eating pig until she was grown up enough to decide she wanted it for herself, but my hubby has already mentioned that he'll give it to her. It doesn't bother me enough to fight about it, it just grosses me out.

Anybody else dealing with differences in food preferences?
