Counter, then I move it to the fridge when it's defrosted but still cold, but I don't need to use it yet. I would only do this with "day of" meat. The reason why I do counter first is because our fridge is like Antarctica and if I wanted to defrost something in there I would have to put it in there like 4 days in advance and I just can't think that far in advance when it comes to dinners.

Or....I could turn the temp down, if I could figure out how to do it on this newfangled fridge....

On the counter. Occasionally in cold water.

ETA- We generally put it in the fridge but if it isn't defrosted on time I then move it to the counter.

I only defrost in the refrigerator. But if it's still not ready when I am for it, I'll put it in the microwave for a bit.

Fridge only! I don't feel comfortable leaving any food just sitting out to defrost. Especially since I'm prone to forget about it for way too long, but even if I were perfect I'd never feel safe doing that. I use the microwave on the very rare occasion that I HAVE to have something that I've forgotten to thaw in advance. But usually we have at least one meal on the menu that requires no thawing of anything, so if I've forgotten I'll just switch it to that meal for the night instead.

I try to put it in the fridge a day or two before I want to use it. If I forget but still have time I'll soak it in cold water. Last resort I defrost in the microwave.
