Wipe & Diaper. I was told to never use powder before 6 months due to it potentially causing asthma. that scared me enough to skip it, never used it.

Unless he gets a rash, just a wipe. Sometimes no wipe b/c he's eager to get going already, especially when we do it standing up. If you're worried about rashes you can always put some Aquaphor before his night diaper, but I can't see that you'll need to do this until he's a bit older and sleeping through the night. Newborns get their diapers changed a lot the first couple of months. Also, there's some controversy with baby powder, I think? I bought it and never needed to use it. I might have used it to fix a creak on our hardwood floors a few times. ;)

Wipe and a preemptive application of butt paste (which is my savior). Have only dealt with one tiny amt of diaper rash in 10months!

We actually used a wash cloth instead of disposable wipes for a long time. We started with wash cloth but when we made the switch to disposable wipes she developed a bad rash so we went back. Didn't stop until she was much older. But we used disposable wipes when we're out.

I agree I really like coconut oil and don't worry about using it often.

I don't think you have to dry them but I do think that letting them air dry or pat dry can help prevent some rashes.

I don't even always wipe her if it's just wet - I just use a dry area of the diaper to blot her a little. Of course if the diaper is soaked then I will use a wipe & then blot a little with the fresh diaper.

I don't wait for a rash to use ointment but I only do it if she is getting red. I use just a pea sized amount before bed.

Coconut oil is great for their little bums so I often put that on her after a bath.

@lovehoneybee: we went through a month or two of constant rash like that too (anti-yeast creams, anti-fungals, steroids, etc.). I had been using cloth and Huggies - switched to cloth and Pampers and rash finally cleared up...don't know if it was just coincidence, but maybe try another brand?

If no rash, wipe and dipe... If rash, wipe with water/cloth wipe or paper towel, a little naked time, then Rx cream plus Burt's Bees diaper cream or Aquaphor + Burt's Bees. With cloth, EMAB butt cream.

We use cloth diapers and cloth wipes (just small baby wash cloths, nothing fancy). We use a dry cloth for pee diapers and get the cloths wet with just plain old water for poos. We use coconut oil if we see any redness and that usually does the trick. I agree it depends on the sensitivity of the baby's skin.

We wipe and diaper. Daycare always puts butt paste but it makes me think they aren't that great about changing her as soon as she poops.

When LO was born the hospital said no wipes for one month. They told us to use Viva paper towels and water for that time. I don't know how common that is but now I precut wipes for all my friends that deliver there.

We use wipes and some kind of cream/ointment. Normally A&D when there's no rash (not all the time, mostly with bedtime or after a poop) and Buttpaste when she has a rash or if she's pooping a lot.

No baby powder, that's pretty old school and not really recommended anymore.

Right now at 2.5 months he's only pooping every few days so we just wipe only when poopy (with cloth wipes which are fantastic) and new diaper. But when he was a couple weeks old he had this rash that wouldn't go away so we were using cream at every change. Turned out it was caused by thrush so we used rx stuff and A&D cream until it went away (which took forever).

Wipes after nasty poops and then a squirt of water and pat with cloth wipe because the regular wipes can give ds a rash. If the poop is not too gross I just use water and a cloth wipe. Aquaphor every night and ds really doesn't get rashes. If he is particularly poopy on any given day I might put some Aquaphor on once during the day too.
