E has her dinner at daycare at 3pm. I then give her a snack (usually porridge) at about 6pm, before bed. We then cook and eat after she goes to bed. We did try having a proper meal all together at the table just before bed but E struggles to nap in the day and is already overtired by the time she gets home - so trying to make her sit at the table and eat real food is a recipe for disaster.

We do almost exactly what you do. If DH will be home for dinner with me, I prep our meal at the island while the girls eat at the table. If he won't, I eat my dinner with the girls early. On Sundays we eat a late big breakfast and early dinner all together.

If DH is off, we usually all eat together. If he works, we either all eat together and dd goes right in the bath after or we feed her and eat later. Sometimes on his off days we eat after bed just because too.

Yeah, LO goes to bed pretty early (usually by 7:30pm), and DH does not get home until somewhere between 7-8pm. DH and I usually eat pretty late, around 8pm. I’m sure I’ll eat with LO soon, but DH’s erratic work schedule plus occasional work travel is too much to plan around.

We pretty much eat together every night. If he doesn't make it home for dinner, he misses dinner completely so I'd eat with DD and my mom usually.

We all get home by 5:30 and I usually prepare dinner while my husband and son play outside. Then we eat together and have family time with all three of us. I'm very grateful for that. My son goes to bed early, before 7 every night so when one of us works late we may not see him so I'm glad it's not often.

LO eats at 6:30 and DH and I eat around 7:30. I would like to eventually get us all together, but LO goes to bed at 7 and I don't really think I could get a full dinner prepped since we get home at 6. I need to work on it...

DH picks DS up at 5:30ish and then we try to eat around 6. We all eat together as a family at the table. Usually we're hungry by then and I have no energy for preparing a dinner for DS and then eating after he goes to bed. Usually when he's in bed we watch some tv and chill out and go to sleep ourselves.

I tried to eat with her during the week. But lately we get home around 5:15 and she asks for dinner. So I reheat up something for her quick. DH and I try and do family dinners with her on Sat and Sun. But it depends on all we have going on. But she usually can wait till 7 to eat on those night cause we can give her a small snack 430ish to hold her off till then. DH and I both don't like eating at 530/600.

During the week DH usually feeds DS dinner when they get home at 5:45/6. DS is usually hangry and tired. Some nights I don't get home until 6:30 and DS is in bed by 7, so there is no way to make eating as a family work. It makes me sad, but we sit down for breakfast together every morning.

DH works until 8:30, so right now I sit with E when he eats at about 6:30. He either gets leftovers or something quick I make for him. Then I make dinner for DH and I after E goes to bed and eat with DH at like 9. I'm not a fan of the arrangement, since a lot of my night gets eaten up with preparing food. I think it won't be long until I switch to cooking early and eating with E and then DH will have to do leftovers.

I'd love to eat together as a family but DH doesn't get home until 7:30 every night and our LOs go to bed at 7:00 and 7:30. I hate cooking with an absolute passion, and my girls are incredibly picky, so I usually throw something together for them for dinner around 5:30/6:00 and have about a 50/50 chance of them eating it. Fortunately, they have huge breakfasts and moderate sized lunches so I'm not terribly fussed whether or not they eat dinner (they'll always have fruit and yoghurt if nothing else). I don't make myself anything at that time because I don't really get the opportunity to eat it anyway, and trying to get their dinners together, much less make a proper meal for myself, is hard enough as it is!

DH does all the cooking once he gets home from work, so we usually eat dinner together around 8:00, and on really good days, the leftovers will be something the girls might eat the following night for their dinner!

We used to have dinner after Xander went to bed because we'd get home and he'd be starving and I'd need to make his dinner immediately and wouldn't have time to get ours ready. But now he's able to wait longer for dinner, so we've been able to eat together as a family. It's sooooo much nicer!! And now after the kids go to bed, we can relax instead of cooking dinner and eating ourselves.

LO eats dinner at 5:45/6 and goes to bed around 7. We sometimes eat with her, sometimes after she goes to bed. Depends on whether I'm cooking or not and how long it takes me to get dinner completed.

Sometimes I wish DH and I ate dinner after the LOs go to bed since it's just so much more peaceful, but I don't want to stretch dinner out over hours and hours and I often have work to do in the evening.

Most of the time the 3 of us have dinner together around 6 when Dh gets home. If I'm making something I know she won't eat, or if Dh and I want to get take out, I'll make her something easy like scrambled eggs and we eat after she goes to bed. That usually happens 1-2x a week

We have dinner together every night at 6. Half the time DH arrives just in time for dinner, and the other half of the time he arrives during some part of dinner. It's tough, and I wish I had an extra hand in the kitchen but I try to make it work. It's important for us to eat together. I eat with the kids for breakfast and lunch since I stay at home.

@Pirouette: that pretty much describes our dinnertime routine, too. It bothers me that we don't do family dinners as much as I'd like -- it's pretty much limited to weekends right now -- but once DD is able to wait a little longer to eat and have a later bedtime, we'll try harder to make it work.

@yoursilverlining: @Rainbow Sprinkles: I actually can't leave the TV on while she's eating! She is way too distracted, even if it's something like golf (thanks DH) and just keeps turning to look at it instead of eating. And I could never let her eat on the couch because she is definitely still too messy. It's easier if she is strapped into her high chair and can't wander away and trail food. But DH and I eat on the couch in front of the TV every night.

He gets a snack/part of dinner in the high chair while I am cooking or cleaning up the kitchen, then we come in the living room to eat our dinner. He then gravitates between playing and coming over to accept bites from our plates.
