We do quiet time when she refuses to nap. She's supposed to stay in bed (we will put a movie on the portable DVD player sometimes that causes her to fall asleep.) Otherwise she can have a dolly and books in her bed. When we check she usually has more in bed than she's supposed too, which means she's gotten up, but it works out pretty well.

@Bao: When they fight naps we'll say, "if you don't want to nap you can play, as long as you play in your bed". Sometimes they'll end up falling asleep anyway.

@Bao: my LO is 3. Napping has been hit and miss since two. She goes in her room for two hours and I set her toddler clock to turn green when she can come out. I always tuck her in and tell her to sleep, but she can choose to get up and turn on the lights. She can then play with her toys and will dress up, do puzzles, etc. sometimes she gets tired eventually and sleeps. I would say she usually comes out 2-3 times to ask for help or something but is pretty cooperative.

The movie seems like a hard habit to break but it is all about what works better for you!

@Bao: We do quiet time in her room and she often gets to use an iPad if I really need her to just keep still. I also shamelessly bribe her "stay in your room until quiet time is over and you can have a jello when you wake up".

If your LO doesn't nap anymore do you make them rest? If you do, do they rest in their room? Can they read/play? Or do they rest on the couch?

LO was resting in her room for several months, she was allowed to read books and have a small toy in bed. She started getting antsy after about 45 minutes so we then let her bring something more entertaining to do in bed just so we could have our own quiet time and get a few things done. Well now she is coming out of her room every 5 minutes the entire duration of rest time. I know the right thing to do is probably keep putting her back in there but by the time I do that 10 times my other LO is up and rest time is over. Yesterday we let her lay on the couch and watch a movie and she actually stayed put the entire time. We are now doing that again today but now sure if this is a bad habit to let her get into.

I'm curious how others do rest time!
