I dress him in thermal tops and thick sweatpants. I have a mix of lined pants and thermals for him. On warmer days, he'll wear a cotton onesie.

I dress my son in lined pants, so I feel like that keeps him warm enough right now, but when there is snow on the ground, I would love for him to be in snow pants....I have to ask the staff what the suggest.

How old is LO?

I just plan to keep to keep an extra set of hat and muffins at daycare. I'm not sure if they'll go out and play in the snow. I should ask, if they do I would keep a extra pair of snow boots and snow pants at daycare.

Well, yesterday it was 3C and I had sent DD in jeans but at pickup daycare said she was cold so to please layer leggings underneath. Once it gets super cold, we'll be sending her snowpants.

Today I put on leggings under her pants but it seemed so bulky and uncomfortable so now I'm in the search of leg warmers.

Our DCP sends kids out if its above 35 - My kids wear a warm jacket (like you have picked out) and a hat and gloves. Kids will run around and make their own body heat.

As for the legs my kids just wear regular pants - no double layers

At 40F, I'd dress her in a mid-season suit with just normal cotton clothes underneath. 30 minutes isn't so long, so I wouldn't worry about her sweating and getting cold underneath because of it. She has a Reima suit (Finnish brand) that's breathable, but waterproof and warm enough. What I love the most is that the hood stays in place and has an elastic that contours to her face. I don't have to worry about her yanking off her hat. It's very convenient and it doesn't hinder her movement at all.

http://www.reima.fi/en/collectioneng/outerwears/overalls

I'd feel comfortable with her outside for over an hour (running around) in her mid-season suit in that weather.

My son's daycare goes to the park every day in the winter unless it is pouring down rain. They require that he has snow pants that we leave at school. His typical daycare outdoor winter play outfit consists of waterproof snow pants, puffy coat, balaclava-type hat, waterproof mittens and waterproof snow boots. I think the teachers must spend at least 20 minutes getting all of the kids into their winter stuff!

DS goes to school in normal pants, usually jeans. But they always put on the snow pants, which also keeps the jeans clean.

Our daycare puts on snow pants on the colder days when the kids go out. I was worried about the same thing and was relieved to hear this! You might want to ask the daycare what they recommend.

@sunny: that is a super cute coat! I would think warm socks, shoes, coat and hat would be sufficient.

Starting in January, DD is going to be starting daycare. They take her outside twice a day to play for 20-30 minutes each time.

The play area has a slight canopy so that it won't get soaking wet since it rains all winter, but it will still be cold. Temperatures usually are around 40F (~4 Celsius) and it doesn't typically snow here... just endless amounts of rain.

I normally dress DD up in knit leggings but I would think she's going to be cold if she's outdoors. Do your daycare teachers help your LOs into snowsuits? That seems excessive though since there won't even be snow on the ground and its above freezing.

What pants do you send your kids to daycare in? Do you double up on leggings? The coat I got for her is waist length. Should I get her a longer coat instead? http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=598208002
