My first time I had my hairstylist do it and it was $80 to match to my natural hair color (dark brown). Because she was only doing my roots, I didn't think it was worth it. My roots grow out pretty fast so I went to a beauty supply store and found a dye so I could do it at home. If I was doing highlights or something more fancy, I'd probably go to a salon but since it's just root touch up, I do it myself. The dye cost about 10 bucks for 2 applications and I pick up a good conditioner to keep my hair soft. I've only had permanent hair dye twice. The month before I got pregnant I did the most drastic thing I've ever done to my hair - got it highlighted! I asked my hair lady if it was safe to get it dyed while pregnant and she said she wouldn't recommend it because if you have any scratches/pimples/openings in your scalp the chemicals go right into you. She said highlighting would be fine though. I've decided to swallow my pride and just have dark brown/orange/gray hair through my pregnancy.
