TV, coloring/painting, just let her play. Now she's older it's a little easier. If she is whining for my attention or something, I pull up a chair so she can stand nearby and watch.

TV, pots and pans, Tupperware....sometimes I hold and cook one handed provided I'm not using oil and stuff. She's at a tough age for this because as soon as we all get home, she wants attention and I have to start dinner.

She sits at the desk in our kitchen and colors, or she pulls up something to "help." That or she whines/fusses and pulls stuff out of the cabinets

Older one tv, little in high chair or playing with Tupperware on floor. I also put little in ergo on my back and or older goes to playroom,

Dinner is a doozie here too even with all that! Lots of crock pot meals.

@Bao: Not sure of your LO's age, but I've started sticking my 11 month old in his high chair and pulling him up in the cooking area with me. I give him a snack or bits of what I'm cooking and he "chats" with me. It's helped a lot because he starts getting tired and clingy around dinner time!

I started letting him cook with me more regularly around 28 months? He makes a huge mess but lives having jobs (basting garlic bread, snapping green beans, pouring things). That lasts a good half hour. Otherwise he gets a show :)

This is a hard area for me too. I usually stick her in her bouncer that I pulled into the kitchen area, but that usually only works for about 10 minutes. Sometimes I'll give her a pot or pan and a spoon on the floor in the dining room and let her go to town.

It's not so bad for breakfast and lunch because I keep those meals simple, but trying to make dinner is a disaster! Both girls are exhausted from the day and hungry, DH is still at work and I'm trying to get dinner together. I do as much prep as I can during nap but it's not always possible. Do you have any tips for entertaining LO while trying to cook meals?
