PS I go to the nursery to feed so DW (incredibly light sleeper) doesn't wake up. :/ Lying down to nurse in the dark in my own bed would be ideal but that's not our agreement right now ... :/ She says (and I guess this is right) that both of us being totally sleep deprived makes no sense. She does get up with DS at 6 am and I sleep until 9 most days so I get one good stretch ...

Thanks all. I was afraid the answer would be no phone haha. It's so lonely in the middle of the night for me (each feed is 45 minutes) that watching Friends on my netflix app is the only thing I look forward to! But you are probably right in that it wakes me up too much to fall back asleep. And then I am crabby all day and maternity leave is going too fast as it is and now I'm rambling from hormones and sleep deprivation. ;)

I nursed DD in bed since we bedshare, so most of the time I was barely awake to begin with!

@ValentineMommy: Me too. This is probably the main reason we formula fed from the start with this baby. With our first, nursing problems and sleep deprivation gave me such awful postpartum depression and anxiety. I couldn't go through that again.

I remember those nights well. After a while, I became so exhausted I started falling asleep quickly and then the question was "how do you NOT fall asleep while driving/ operating machinery/ listening to a brass band?"

For me, it just took time. I had trouble falling back asleep after my first was born too. I'd be up for hours and just fall asleep right before he woke up again for the next feed. And it was so annoying too because I would just lay there, stressing about how I WASN'T getting enough sleep, and having anxiety about it was keeping me awake! Eventually you just get so sleep deprived, that falling asleep becomes easy.

Good luck, Mama! I know it's hard! <3

This is probably no help, but I made DH do night feedings for this exact reason. I just could not fall back to sleep no matter what I did.

My lo was good for waking up between 3:30-4:15am almost every night. DHs alarm goes off at 5am but I didn't have to be up until 6. If I didn't fall right back to sleep I was screwed. I learned a breathing exercise 4-7-8 breath in for a count of 4 hold for a count of 7 exhale for a count of 8.

Sorry you're having trouble-I was right there with you when my son was a newborn! I had a lot of anxiety after he'd finally fall back asleep, and I often would be up so long that I would just fall back asleep and it would already be time for the next feeding because hours would have passed!

I could never, ever turn on my phone or iPad because the backlight would wake me up too much. I kept my son's room all but pitch black for feedings, using only a very dim nursery light to be able to see to change his diaper, and tried to close my eyes while he was nursing. I also used this breathing technique when I went back to bed, which I know has been mentioned elsewhere on Hellobee, but thought I'd share it here (http://www.medicaldaily.com/life-hack-sleep-4-7-8-breathing-exercise-will-supposedly-put-you-sleep-just-60-332122). Even if it didn't put me right to sleep, it did calm down my breathing and I often fell asleep soon after. Best of luck!

I got a lamp dimmer bc I still need a little light to feed him. It really helps me to not wake up too much in the MOTN. It's this one: http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-TTCL-100H-WH-Credenza-Dimmable-Dimmer/dp/B004DE5ONC

No phone, only a night light and a good comfy chair/glider. I pretty much just close my eyes and rest my head as soon as I would put the baby on the boob to help me to stay in that sleepy state of mind

I was so exhausted I would pass right back out - most times! Unless it was 445 am and I had gotten a good stretch. I never used my phone or anything motn. Just nursed in dark room and went back to bed.

It took me awhile to adjust but I would either nurse him laying down and try to relax or if I sit in the glider, I prop my neck up with pillows and keep my eyes closed. It only really was feasible when he was older and I didn't need to watch him the entire time and make adjustments. Definitely no phone.

Agree with everyone else- no phone, no tv. At first it felt really boring but after a while it was kind of a nice peaceful time with just me and baby. Keep the room dim, although he's probably so young that you still need some light to get him latched and everything.

Also the let down hormones usually helped me get sleepy again- sometimes I'd be awake anyway and just want her to wake up so I could feed her and get those sleepy hormones to help me sleep.

I had to stop bringing my phone in because it woke me up. My DD is 9 months and still wakes once to nurse. Sometimes it's hard to fall back asleep, but most times, if I just close my eyes and doze while she nurses that makes it easier to fall back asleep.
