I do not think it matters. I think that the taste is what's important. My 13 month old, for instance, just happily ate a bunch of potato salad, including the boiled eggs that were in it. She usually won't eat eggs, so I was thrilled, and I'm hoping that now she'll give them another try.

I really think that the taste and the texture are all that matters. I used to mix new foods in with yogurt, and that often worked to get her to try them. She would usually then eat them on her own.

@caffeinated: she's almost 8.5 months now. She just started eating a lot more pretty recently (like maybe two wks ago?). There are still days when she refuses to eat more than 2 oz, but typically she will eat around 4 oz three times a day!

Hahaha I've tried some combos I gave her and gagged too :) I think once I tried to feed her butternut squash with peas and carrots and rice cereal. She looked so angry. After I tried it, I didn't blame her :) if the combo is kinda weird, I'd give it to her separately (although L won't eat things like peas or green beans alone...I have to purée it into her jook). Lately, I've been doing mostly jook...I found that was the best way to get her to eat meat and veggies without a fuss :)

@c.sassy: okay, good to know!

@MungBean: 4-5oz?? how old is she again? i also made sweet brown rice jook last week with chicken and veggies, and she loved it. :) my only concern are combos that don't make sense and taste gross mixed together. i gave her an avocado-pea-sweet potato-carrot mixture and she gagged...as did i.

In the beginning I was giving her one fruit or veggie at a time. Now I usually do combinations.

i make her sweet rice jook (porridge) with one meat and various veggies. Today for example, she had a mix of brown and white sweet rice, beef, broccoli, green beans, and carrots with sesame oil to flavor it. She loves her jook and will usually eat up around 4-5 oz twice daily. For her third meal, I usually do fruit combo with oatmeal.

I don't think it matters at this point. Our goal right now is to get her used to new flavors. I tend to mix them together so that I only have one dirty dish :) Which means mixing a bit of fruit with veggies. Once her meals are a little more predictable I will probably give them separately.

So far I do mostly one at a time and vary bites. But we're only a couple of weeks in. I have done two mixed together sometimes though. LO loves pear-mango. I'm thinking of starting to mix one fruit with one veggie

Ok, this is for those who have been giving purees to their LOs. Do you mix a bunch of stuff into one puree or do you have separate bowls of various purees that you feed her one at a time?

I had a beet-acorn squash puree, and a chickpea-garlic-yogurt puree. She happily took the former but was grossed out by the latter...after struggling to eat the chickpeas, i mixed the rest in with the beet-squash mixture. I dont really want to "hide" certain foods in sweeter foods...

Do you give your LO one mixed extravaganza or do you give her foods separately? Do you think it matters?
