I always felt younger than I was- I'm 34 until July- and it always seemed that having children was something we'd get round to eventually, no mad hurry. Turning 30 didn't bother me a whole lot, funnily 33 really did. I guess because 33 can be called mid 30s! But it was at 33 that I realised the clock was ticking and if we left TTC to long we might end up going too far past my eggs' sell by date... I'm ok with my age now, really, and most of my friends already have kids, and those who don't are a few years younger than me so there's a nice mix. DH is 38 and not one bit impressed about it!

@artbee: happy birthday!

I'm 40. Shocking, isn't it? Lol. I don't care. I so totally love where I am in my life now that I think 40 is awesome. I found DH later in life than most so I really appreciate what I have. In my 38th year I got married, ran the Boston Marathon in under 4 hours and got pregnant with LO. Not bad for an old duck! The only time my age worries me is ttc. We want a second and the clock is ticking. But there are worse things than remaining a family of 3.

@Andrea: @chopsuey119: @mrs. wagon: @lilteacherbee: Thanks!

@mrs. wagon: I'll never ignore my birthday... I like presents and cake too much to do that!

@yoursilverlining: That's such a nice way to think about getting older! I have a friend who's doing a 30th birthday party cruise (and I mean party like they'll drink 24/7).... Maybe I can convince my family to do a 30th birthday family cruise with the grandparents. I've been wanting to do that anyway.

@Rubies: I'm also the only friend with a baby, so it's weird seeing what everyone else does for their birthday. They all go out and party.... and I'll be home by 7 because that's LO's bath time. Not that I'm complaining, I'd much rather be with LO on my birthday then in a bar. I think it also isn't great that I feel frumpy with all of this baby weight still! For me, getting older means getting fatter :(

@lilteacherbee: 23 was the age that sucked for me. I think it's my family's fault though because they always liked the Blink182 song that says nobody likes you when you're 23. So that would always be in my head.

I was actually very excited to turn 30. I had so much fun in my 20’s and really focused on myself (college, getting a good career, friends, dating, getting married, buying a home, etc.), and I sort of feel like my 30’s will be a new and awesome phase in my life where I take what I learned and built in my 20’s and put it towards building my family, having a baby, building a new home, etc. Instead of thinking about getting older, I just try to think about entering new phases in my life.

I am also happy to be in such a good place in my life.

You should turn your 30th b-day into something exciting to look forward to! My husband and I flew down to New Orleans for my birthday weekend, which was so much fun. It was nice to look forward to that getaway, and also to feel sort of like that 30 wasn’t some number at which I turned into a frumpy older person! ;-p

Happy Birthday!! I've often wondered what the age is when you stop wanting to get older. I turned 22 last year and it was exciting (mostly because I work with kids and I got told happy birthday about 39521 times). I know I'm one of the youngest here on HB, so I don't feel "old" yet. I do feel older than my friends because most of them aren't married or have kids yet. My best friend turned 26 a few days ago and I relate to her the most.

I still get excited for my birthdays, but I wonder how long that will last...

I just turned 31 and it freaks me out a little bit. I just feel a little more stressed out about getting older. I think I equate "old" with "frumpy", though. Most of my friends are married/engaged but with no kids and I feel like the anomaly in every way. *BUT* I am exactly where I thought I would be so it's all good.

@artbee: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :)

Growing up, my mom ignored her birthday (and didn't make a big deal for my dad's, and really only made a big deal for ours if we asked her to). I always hated that and we tried to surprise her on her birthday every year and get her presents and stuff, and she never seemed excited. I swore I'd be a fun mom when it came to birthdays, specifically my own, and I'd be excited every year.

Fast forward to my 29th birthday, 2 years ago... all I could think of is how my mom would tell me to tell everyone that she was 29. This was when I was a little girl, obviously. I just felt so old and mom-ish and even though Rob Sr. and I had waited a while to have kids, I still didn't feel old enough to transition from young hot wife to MOM. Plus I felt like there was no going back.

Last year for my 30th birthday we took 4 of our closest friends out to our favorite restaurant for a fancy meal. That was fun, to be able to treat them AND circumvent any kind of party or gathering not planned by us (Rob Sr.'s birthday is 12 days after mine).

This year I insisted on not celebrating my birthday. We went on a birthday/valentine's day/babymoon spa weekend but on the actual day we just got takeout and hung out at home.

I think after 25 birthdays just became NOT fun for me anymore. :( So that's how I feel about getting older. NOT GOOD!!!

@artbee: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!! Turning 30 is not so bad and you still have a whole year before that happens! Aaaah, to be 29 again...I wish! :-) I never used to care about getting older but now I am getting less happy about it.

Today is my birthday so of course I'm thinking about getting older. One more year and I'll be 30. I'm not happy about it. But at least I'm in a good place in my life. I'm married, and have a LO, and get to be a SAHM. I know that soon I'll get to start TTC again for baby #2. This makes getting older a little easier.

My husband is very different. He accepts that he's getting older and he's happy about it. I'm happy that he's older than me :)
