A three-hour commute sounds very taxing!

I love my job and will be going back part-time in September or October, when my maternity leave ends. We'll also be moving further away (so the grandparents can watch LO), so instead of a 20-25 minute commute by bus, I'll have a 40 minute commute by train plus a 10 minute walk. Hopefully we'll find a house near the train station to cut down on commuting time as well...

I'm nervous about going back and leaving LO but I work with some seasoned parents, as well as another new mum, so I'll have good support there.

I'm a grad student but consider it "work" since I'm out of the taking classes stage-- I work as a TA for an undergrad class and work on my dissertation. I love it, but I'm doing it part time right now (lo is only in daycare 3 part-days per week) and I find that really hard. I feel like I don't have enough time to get my work done (some weeks it's all I can do to deal with my students and I have no time for my dissertation)but at the same time I don't want lo away from me any more than she is, our time is so precious.

Torn. I lost job a few days before I had LO and then was too overwhelmed with motherhood/it wasn't really a priority to look for a job for a long time. I just started seriously looking a few months ago... so I am a SAHM but really I'm just unemployed lol.

On one hand I am incredibly grateful that I've gotten to spend the last 10 months home with my daughter. On the other hand it is sort of stressful to not know when/how I"ll be going back to work. And to know that when I do go back to work, it may be very quickly. I think on the balance I'm grateful that I'm currently at home with my daughter, but it sort of sucks to live in limbo. I just wish I knew WHEN I'd get a job-- whenever that is-- so that I could stop worrying about it. Also, interviewing is exhausting. And turning down job offers (even when you know they aren't right for you) is hard.

I WOH and love it. What I didn't expect and don't love is my commute. It's an hour and 15 minutes each way (66 miles a day). It's really eating into my time with LO and husband at night. I'm trying to find a new job closer to home.

Right now I'm on maternity leave with my 3 1/2 week old. I start working PT at the end of May. I'm self employed. I'll be working about 10-15 hours a week. I'm happy with it, this was our plan from the beginning, I left my full time corporate career almost 3 years ago to focus on my photography and support M until we decided to start a family.

I love my job and my commute. When DH and I were looking for a house, we first looked out in the suburbs but decided to sacrifice space for commute and I'm so glad we did it. I have about a 30 min walking commute, which includes dropping off LO at daycare on the way.

I work full time with a 2nd easy weekend job to help pay bills. I generally like my job, but feel that I am underpaid for my skill set. But I am SO SO grateful to have it because I spent more than a year unemployed and looking for work. I am always looking for ways to develop skills--taking some online courses for new certifications and volunteering with different organizations. Trying to do that all now before we have kiddos because I know I won't have time then!

I LOVE my commute--if I drove it would be 15 minutes. But since my employer pays for public transit I take the train which is more like ~45 minutes. I get a lot of good reading time in, and it's generally a good way to get ready/decompress from my days. We're in the beginning stages of house hunting right now, and I refuse to look anywhere that's more than 15 minutes from public transit.

I feel torn. I had to quit my job since I didn't have paid mat leave and I wanted to take more than 3 months. But now I wish I had kept it and gone back after 3 months even though it was unpaid. I was undoubtedly ready for work again at 3 months.
But now that my son is 6 months and fun to be with, and summer is just around the corner, it's hard to get motivated, even though I ultimately want to be working. I've given myself a deadline of LO's first birthday. It'll be September so summer will be over and I think 1 year will have given me plenty of time to be with him, but it's not too long to be out of the game for work. I can easily explain it on interviews and it won't seem unreasonable. I also work in the realm of technology so I feel like taking off too much time could set me back too far.

Love it. I changed jobs a year and a half ago trading 2 hours in the car to a 7 mile commute. I also have a huge amount of flexibility to WFH a day or two a week and a gym and free lunch in the office. I hope to drop to 30 hrs a week once we have kids in school FT and I think that will be very feasible.

I just started a new job and so far I really like the team and the work. The commute is a little worse than my old job and the hours are a little more irregular, so I am sad about missing out on some time with LO but all in all I think it was a good decision, especially since the pay is better which helps me worry a little less about money.

I wish my commute was shorter, and I wish my salary was higher, but I love being a WOHM. I enjoy my job and I'm close friends with several of my coworkers out of work, so I usually have fun at work. Evenings can be tough because I do them alone most nights after a full day of work, but I still think I'm a better, more patient and present mom to Evan than I was when I was a SAHM. And much happier.

I love being a WOHM! My schedule is pretty flipping fantastic too, I work 8-3 which allows me lots of time to take DS to the park, library, etc and to be able to cook meals and tidy the house without leaving it all for the weekend. With my DH working 60+ hr weeks and going to school at night it's a lifesaver to have the schedule that I have. I feel incredibly lucky.

I like my full time WOH job. Its really demanding and often stressful but I like the challenge. But, like you, my commute is slowing killing me. My office is 25 miles away on a,very busy, frequently stand-still stretch of motorway. Before I can even start my commute, though, I have to drive across the city to drop LO at my inlaws'. That adds 40 mins to my journey every day. It frequently takes me 2 hrs in the morning and 1.5 hrs on the way home. Add to that the fact that there are roadworks on every corner right now and my usual motorway slip road is closed for the next YEAR - agh!
