You ladies are inspiring me to read more. I very rarely watch TV (maybe once every couple mos, except football) so I would say that's my reading time but I waste SO much time mindlessly surfing the internet. Now I want to use that time reading instead. If I'm really into a book, I make tons of time and can finish it in a few days.

Before bed each night and occasionally during their nap. If they didn't get up so early I'd read while I drink coffee in the morning. I actually have tons of time to read but tend to waste it doing stuff online instead

@Bao: i tend to just binge read on the weekends. I can't seem to get into it during the week, i feel too tired.

I'm jealous of the commuters who have public transportation! I have to drive and dislike audio books...i space off too much

I'm usually not awake enough to read on the subway. These days, a book only gets read if it either can stay open by itself while I eat (if it keeps closing, no go!), or if I can read it on my phone.

I gave up some TV shows and read instead. I was watching several shows I didn't really care too much about, so I decided it would be more useful to read. I still watch a couple of favorites but no more mindless television.

@Bao: Add me to the list of people who read on their commute, I use the 40 minutes each way on the train to read, usually a little bit before bed and anytime I have to wait somewhere using my e-reader. Lately I have only been reading my textbook for a class I am taking but hopefully before baby comes I will get a chance to read a little bit for pleasure. It is so hard to make the time to read..

my commute is 4 hours a day.... fuuun! i tear through books though, which is good.

when i was growing up my mom always carved out dedicated reading time. so she would literally make me go to my room and read and she would read. i think it made me love reading... we also went to the library a lot and would sit and read at the library. it was a priority for her to get books in so she forced me to let her do it! haha. looking back, i find it pretty impressive!

@Bao: I feel ya. I have zero time to read. I'm home alone w/my toddler all day, who will barely let me pee (she is usually knocking on the door singing, "do you wanna build a snowman??"), let alone read a book. I would like to read for an hour or so after she goes to bed, but for the past 6 months, she's been unable to sleep unless I'm lying in bed next to her, so that's out, too :T I'm considering asking for a Kindle for Christmas so I can read with the lights dimmed while she's asleep.

She's also started morning preschool, 2x a week, so I think I will try to read in-between errands and while I'm waiting to pick her up.

I read at lunchtime, while on the toilet (uh...yeah), at bedtime, while waiting for my car to be serviced, at the doctor's office, after my daughter's bedtime, etc. Any time I can squeeze in 5-10 minutes or more, I read. I just have to remember to carry the book or kindle with me wherever I go.

I'm another train commuter, which gives me a good ~35 minutes of uninterrupted reading time twice a day. Every once and a while I'm so engrossed in a book that I miss my stop. WHOOPS.

I also like to read before bed--it makes me sleepy! Some nights I only read a page, other nights I'm there for 30 minutes.

I'm a fast reader, so with all that reading time I do about a book per week.

I have to read at least for a few minutes before I go to bed, otherwise my brain won't shut off. And I go to bed pretty early since we're an early to rise household, so I've given up a lot of TV watching so that I can squeeze in some reading, even 15 minutes worth. Otherwise it doesn't really happen.

@.twist.: yeah it seems crazy, you'd think because I'm home I would find some time to read but if I ever get the chance to sit I catch up on a million other things. Once night rolls around I'm hanging with DH or so tired I just want to watch TV or do something mindless like browse the Internet. If I try reading and I'm not focused/too tired I forget what just happened lol!

Honestly, I found it really hard to find the time while I stayed home. I would sometimes try while L napped, but that really was it.

Now, my work commute is about 40 minutes and I take the train, so I can pound out about 15-20 pages per train ride. I really cherish those train rides and sometimes secretly hope they have an issue or break down so I can sit there longer. :D

I love reading, and used to do it as much as I could pre-kids, but now I feel like I neglect it. I know I can find the time even if it's just 20 minutes a day, but by the time I sit down at night I never end up doing it. If there is anything going on around me such as TV, talking, etc I can't focus, so that makes it harder too.

How do you find the time to read, or make yourself sit down and read a book?
