Awww....

I had a similar situation like you did. I actually took my son to a mommy and me yoga class when he was a baby at something like 11am in the morning. Like the time right before my baby would go for a nap. I decided to go because 2 of my friends (with same age babies) were going too. Oh boy. It was so bad. I think it was a mix of tiredness and unfamiliarity with the situation, my son cried and cried and didn't like any of the poses that the instructor asked us to do (Not to mention the class also sucked). So I had to dash out in the first 15 minutes.

Back then we were able to just go out for a stroll, to the mall, and he would sleep soundly in the stroller. And he napped well in the car. Those were the days. So in a way we were still able to go out for some activities. I just tried to make it home for his BIG nap. The 2nd and 3rd naps I will try to rearrange so it would be the time he'd be in the stroller, or the car.

And I remember I got frustrated when all these classes I wanted to go to (eg. infant swimming class) were always scheduled at the time we supposed to nap!

Haha about the in-laws, my FIL once woke my perfectly napping baby just because he wanted to take a picture with him while holding him (not to mention I carefully orchestrated the time so at that time he would be sleeping in the stroller while we walked in the park, and of course no one knew about it they just thought the day went by so smoothly). Boy I was furious.

My baby was (still is) very good about just napping anywhere and everythwere, so I just kind of go about my business, and if she falls asleep try to stay out a little longer. I started doing classes for me and her when she was 7 weeks. Her night time sleep is shit though, so maybe don't listen to me.

Honestly, we didn't do any classes until DD dropped down to 2 naps. She's 16 months and just dropped to one, and I'm amazed at how much easier it is to actually get out and do stuff with her! I would only sign up for things you don't mind missing when you're at the three-nap stage.

I started taking LO to baby yoga @ 8 weeks. It is free at a local library, so I never worried if we couldn't make it, but typically LO falls asleep in the car on the way home and I drive around or sit in the driveway until she wakes up.

Of course at 6 mo, my LO is a horrible napper (typically 4 naps that are only 30-45 minutes each day and fights ALL of them) which may be a result of me rarely staying home for naps...

It was actually easier for us to go out at that age because LO slept best in the car. We would get in the car at naptime & drive to our destination & then sit in the car until it was a little bit before activity time, or just until she woke up if it was Target or what have you. I'd feed her & then we'd do our activity & then when it was over she'd be wiped & sleep in the car on the way home!

Now it's actually much harder because I am trying to preserve her two longer naps at home. But occasionally I will screw it up & let her sleep in the car so we can get out.

I think it depends on your baby too. Some babies are easy-going & can be more flexible. Mine was never that way so I only did things that would fall between naps. Honestly even at 6 months we only do free/drop-in stuff so it's no big deal if we miss.

It's tough! At that age we were never able to schedule anything for the afternoon because based on the length/timing of the previous naps I could never guarantee when she'd be napping that late in the day! We did do a couple of activities a week that started at 11am--we would either have to wake her a little early or leave the activity a little early to get back for her lunchtime nap.

My baby naps everywhere and anywhere, so we just drag him around on the weekends. I try to have him get in one good nap at home, but other than that he sleeps in the car seat, stroller or while being worn.

I usually schedule activities in the morning. My LO takes 2-3 naps a day at 4 months old, usually short cat naps in the morning and then a nice long 3 hour nap in the afternoon. I don't touch the afternoon one because that is priceless time for me to get stuff done around the house or just veg out! The morning ones I'm willing to run around because he will sleep in the car or stroller.

I also have to fight off my Mother-in-law and sister-in-law when they visit because they want to see him but he's sound asleep. I tell them unless they are going to stay through the night and deal with the aftermath, then sorry, no waking the baby! :)

We didn't do any scheduled activities at that age, but we were out of the house a lot. We relied on stroller/babywearing naps. We didn't intentionally stay home for naps until she was on a consistent 2 nap schedule - well after 6 months.

Wow - I would have loved to have your problem. 5-6 hours a day. How often is your class? My LO has 2 naps a day and I don't have a problem screwing up one of her naps once a week.

@hilsy85: what classes did you do?
@luckypenny: we do go on walks and he naps in the stroller. Not sure he could nap through a baby yoga or music class though. :).
You guys are making me feel better about not going to classes. I thought I was squandering my maternity leave. But maybe it's just too difficult with a baby this age. I could always try one baby yoga session to see how it goes I guess

Ha, ummm...I didn't? Soon enough your LO will be on fewer naps a day and it'll be much easier to schedule things. I know this differs by family but a well-rested baby was always more important to me (especially because they also have no idea what's going on when you take them to the activities anyways).

Honestly we didn't do many activities when she was on 3 naps. A trip to target and meeting a friend for coffee were about as exciting as it got for awhile. When it got nicer we'd meet friends for walks. It's such a short phase and they are so happy when they're well rested. It was worth it to me to be home bound a lot and to mostly invite people over to hang out. Then that phase is over in a few months and it's much easier to go to library story time or other activities. We really started doing regularly scheduled activities when she went to one nap

Hi, I really want to take my three month old to baby yoga class. But it's at 2:30, and he is usually napping around then (although we don't have a set schedule yet, should we?). How do I do anything with a baby that naps 5-6 hours a day? Relatedly, my mother in law is very disappointed that every time she comes over, the baby is asleep. I'm like, sorry he's a baby--that's what he does!
