@sunny: just regular tide...i actually think its the free & clear that makes the smell worse. i could be wrong on this but i think because milk is a protein (like blood), warm/hot water will seal it into the fabric so that is why the smell lingers. so its easier to disguise it with some sort of scented detergent. i figured if LO's skin was sensitive to it, then i'd just live with the milky smell, but if she was fine then we'd stick with the regular tide. she had no reaction to it, and our burp cloths smell like tide now.

I use Dreft and despite having a child who spits ALL the time I don't have any lingering smell issues.

@JessLC: Did you switch to the Tide free and clear, or just the regular Tide?

I had this problem with burp cloths. A lingering milky smell. I was using All Free & Clear. I switched to Tide and that solved it. Fortunately LO's skin is not sensitive.

I don't have an LO so I'm not sure about that smell specifically, but when our towels get musty I use a bit of vinegar in the wash. It's worth a shot!

I've washed my LO's bibs multiple times and there is still a stubborn spit-up smell lingering. I use Kirkland Free and Clear and throw in a spoonful of Oxyclean too. I wash on the "warm" cycle.

How do you get rid of this smell?! It's driving me crazy.
