@Rubies: That's exactly how we started with our daughter. Now the bunny is invaluable to keeping her hands still enough for her to fall asleep :)

We decided, on a whim, to try to start a lovey so during all her feeds starting last night, I held a little winnie-the-pooh under her hand for her to feel it...Tucked it under her arm...Held it on her tummy, etc. and we'll probably continue this for another month or so when we start sleep-training her.

My LO (10 1/2 mos) doesn't have a lovey either as she doesn't seem to gravitate towards one toy. I do, however, like @Grace's idea of having it near when bf'ing. I might also sleep with it a couple of nights so that it smells like me.

Now, what do I pick for a lovey. What works well for you gals?

We also introduced a lovey when we stopped swaddling. Honestly she didn't take to the first one we tried but my grandma bought her one not knowing we had one and she ended up loving her bunny lovey. When we were giving her a bottle before nap or bedtime we would wrap her arm around the lovey while she drank her bottle and when we laid her in her crib (at this point she was sleeping mainly on her side) we would wrap the other arm around the lovey as well. We also got the lovey out during play time so she became familiar with it.

I haven't tried this myself, but I've heard it helps if it smells like you so it gives them extra comfort. If you're bf'ing you can lay the lovey next to you when you do and then it'll kind of pick up your scent for when you tuck it in with the baby later.

My goal in introducing a lovey was to get rid of the pacifier, which she was only using during sleep time. So a few weeks before I wanted to get rid of the paci, I put the lovey in the crib with her. She didn't care for it but got used to the sight of it I guess. And then when we got rid of the paci cold turkey, she went right for the lovey! She only uses the lovey during sleep time just like how she only used to use the paci at sleep time.

My son doesn't seem to be interested in a lovey. I thought he might want something, so I tried cuddling him together with a stuffed lamb/blanket thing. He doesn't like it and pushes it away.

I'd love to hear how to go about this!

My daughter turns 12 weeks old on Monday and sleep-training is on our minds as is the thought of not swaddling anymore. I want her to have a lovey to help calm her...How do you introduce one? Just stick it with her and hope for the best?
