I do the same but since I am cheap instead of buying a bin I use old diaper/wipes boxes. The hand me downs go to LO's little cousin but I save some of my favorites (in a separate old diaper box).

@c.sassy: That's a great idea! I should do that b/c I do spend quite a bit of time going through all of my son's clothes to remove the smaller sizes.

I take them out as soon as I notice she's outgrown them. Then I'll go back in her closet and grab whatever is left of the same brand and put it away. I'm keepin everything in vacuum seal bags am keep them under her crib

Same- bin system. Once the bin is full I sort by size/type then put away in storage. Whenever I see the stacks of clothes are running low- every couple of months or so, I start adding from the larger size bin. (I always have clothes from the next size up already washed and ready to go).

I bought a bunch of plastic bins from Costco and keep one in LOs room. When I find something that doesn't fit, I put it in the bin and when all of that size clothes are in the bin, I close it up and label it.

i do what alot of other posters are saying, keeping a bin in the closet that I just toss things in that LO is outgrowing after cleaning it. every other month or so, I'll go through it, label the bin, and start taking out the next size of things I have waiting for her (we get a lot of me hand me downs from friends). we are keeping all the clothing for our next LO coming.

When I notice something doesn't fit, I go through everything and remove everything in that size (unless something is a little big in that size, then it gets to stay for a bit longer).

Lo doesn't have too many clothes, so I usually go through her stuff once a month and put things that are too small away.

I put things that she is out growing in a tote as she outgrows them. She is just getting out of newborn stuff, but some of the newborn items (especially pants) still fit. Brands vary in size so much that I just go by how small it is, rather than what the tag says.

@c.sassy: Same!!

I have a plastic bin I was throwing his 0-3 mos stuff in as he outgrew it. Once he was fully in 3-6 mos I just sorted through and took it all out.

@c.sassy: Ditto to this exactly! I toss things into the container as I go, then I do a bi-weekly purge and put all of the loose clothing into space saver bags and squish them into the bottom of the container.

I keep a rubbermaid container in the bottom of her closet. As soon as we realize that she has outgrown something it goes into the container. Once I realize that she is fully in the next size (say all 6mo instead of 3-6 and 6mo) I go through her closet and drawers and throw in items that we may have missed along the way.

At what rate does she seem to outgrow her stuff? Could you start sliding the clothes that she's been wearing for like, the past 2 months to one side of the closet, knowing it's iffy whether or not they'll fit? New clothes on the right, smaller stuff on the left?

I'm still trying to figure out how to do this with my closet! i put a polo shirt on today and was like, Nope, it's gotta go!

Obviously all kids grow so fast out of their clothes. How do you keep up with removing outgrown clothes? It drives my husband nuts when he gets her dressed and the outfit doesn't fit. I have tried to do both a semi-frequent clean out of her closet and to remove items one at a time when I notice they are getting small (after they come out of the laundry). How do you handle this process?
