My LO and I take a tots yoga class so I try to remember some of the songs and exercises to repeat at home. One thing that tends to work is when I say very loudly (so he hears me over his screaming) "Can you count to three? One....two....threeeeeee" and I'll repeat this a few times until he's calmed down for at least a few seconds so I can distract him with something else - usually a book since he loves reading. He also thinks it's funny when I say "Breathe in.....breathe OUTTTT" and he'll try to breathe in deeply like I do. The breathing helps me, though, at least in the moment!

It's so tough. My husband had the flu all last week and this past weekend so it was just M and me all week. I let her scream sometimes, other times I would take her outside (that always seems to make her happy). Sometimes, though you just need to go on with your life and do the things you need to get done while that kid is screaming. At least that's how I feel about it.

@BabyBoecksMom: haha It depends on the situation! If I'm busy doing something else and LO throws a fit, then it's not pretty. I am on the verge of throwing my own tantrum lol

@BabyBoecksMom: Mornings are so hard! I used to raise my voice or yell a lot more until I just started leaving him. This morning DS threw a tantrum because he didn't like his breakfast option. I let him throw a tantrum in front of the fridge while I went to brush my teeth, and by the time I came back, he accepted the same yogurt as his breakfast. Luckily he's old enough where I know I can leave him without him hurting himself. I'm actually just trying to build more time into the morning right now because it takes forEVer to get out of the house with these two.

@T-Mom: I think W is the same way. She just needs to scream and get it some of it out before she's ready to reason. But that usually happens when I'm on a schedule and need to be somewhere - haha. I wonder how the SAHM's and single parents do this day in and day out... and I'm complaining about a week at most!

My DS can't be talked out of a tantrum right now, so I leave him for a few minutes to have it, and when I come back, he is usually ready to reason. Good luck! It's hard when you're doing it alone.

It depends on what is causing the tantrum. I learned from Mr. Bee that triggers could be hunger and tiredness, so I treat those differently than ones that arise from situations of not getting what he wants/frustration!

I struggle with this! I try and remember what her frustration is and think about the seriousness of it. I also try and laugh it off. Hope things turn around soon :)

I'm solo parenting this week while DH is sick with the flu. Her tantrums are pretty epic, and the decibel levels her screams can get are ear-piercing. Most of the time, I can talk her back to sanity, but I'm curious how other moms deal with the times when talking just makes things worse.
