I use robot (automatic) floor vacuum & love it but it is a spurge ($499.99). Thing is: if you're stayin in this home for awhile and have pets, it's probably worth it? I got mine from BBB and used their 20% coupons and got it for like $405.00? And there are less expensive models as well (it also works on carpet!)

Then I mop with the swiffer once a week (I use the hard wood floors solution).
I follow it up with Murphy oil every other week maybe? Do that when your dogs are outside. My cat steps in the oil then hops on the couch so I want to kick her behind! I always mop when she's asleep :)
We have the Shark but it made my hard wood floors cloudy! And if you read reviews, I'm not the only one. It does work amazingly on bathroom and kitchen tile though!

We have two big sheeders too, it's a process. Daily I sweep and use a microfibre swiffer. Sweeping gets the big stuff that LO drops and the swiffer catches all the dog hair. On full floor wash days after the try swiffer I get out the steam mop to clean all the dirt, spots and stains. After that dries we use a pledge floor polish. I usually only polish once ever 7-10 days.

@septemberlove: we spot clean with water. But we aren't supposed to full on mop. We only have two indoor cats so not many chances for muddy footprints!

I either sweep with a broom or swiffer. Then once in awhile I use the swiffer and spray it with endust to keep the floor shiny. Our landlords are very strict about not using water to clean the hardwood since it can warp the floor.

We've tried the regular Swiffer route but it just doesn't seem to catch it all, unless we're diligent about daily use (which we definitely aren't, especially since I'm the only one who cleans!)

@chopsuey119: Does the shark vac & steam in one pick up larger pieces of debris? I was looking at the swiffer sweeper vac but it doesn't seem like it'd pick up bigger things a normal vaccum could handle.

We have a cat who sheds a lot, which is very noticeable on our dark hardwood. We swiffer for regular (daily-ish) upkeep. Vacuum once a week. Wash with water and Murphy's Oil about once a month.

No shoes in our house too!

I use a microfiber "mop" to sweep up debris/dust and use a DustBuster for daily maintenance. Then about once a week I "mop" with hardwood floor cleaner and a microfiber "mop"...it's a PITA but I prefer hardwood to carpet

we don't wear shoes inside, that really helps! we have a micro fiber sweeper, i find it picks up dust/hair better than a broom, and i just use the vacuum rather than chasing dirt around. we have a swiffer wet jet mop, but i really want a hoover floormate! for now i wash with the swiffer wet jet and wash the tile floor with a scrub brush on my hands and knees every once in awhile. maybe brushing extra hair off the dogs outside would help? we just have a cat, so i'm not much help with dog hair issues.

just think, all that was there before, it was just trapped in dirty carpet, now at least you can see it to deal with it =)

We made the switch from carpets to hardwoods this summer and it's been a constant struggle to keep them clean.

Right now, I'm just sweeping with a regular old-fashioned broom and mopping with a regular old-fashioned mop. I'm considering stepping it up though, any suggestions?

We have two dogs, one is a shedding monster basset, which makes things difficult!
