Take out trash often and lots of fresh air. I can't really do scents, especially not while pregnant.

@jh524: we put baking soda in our box too but it doesn't work when the cats take a fresh dump! Moving it is a good idea! Glad some of these tips are helping!

@jh524: Mrs Meyers Lavender room freshener! It's $5, it lasts forever, and the scent isn't chemical-y like Febreze, but totally neutralizes, like, ALL household odors: pets, bathroom smells, musty closets, cooking scents. We live in a NYC apartment with a large dog and are pretty obsessed with keeping it clean and good-smelling because it's a small space. The other best thing we do is take out the trash and recycling daily, which others have mentioned. I love candles too, but I'm always afraid I'm going to forget them (plus the nice ones are so expensive).

@shellio: great idea!!! I have a little mini crockpot that would be perfect for this!
@MrsBrewer: ooh!! That sounds nice! I'll have to look into that!!
@ShootingStar: great idea with the natural spray!! I need that for sure!!
@Mrs. Blush: mmmm pumpkin spice
@Eko: good idea about the litter box. I think I'll move it to the garage and see it that helps. I'm thinking it's the main culprit even though it's in our laundry room in a closet but my bedroom is right next to it so I smell it often. Hubby's in charge of cleaning it right now so it may be suffering a bit. I even bought some Arm & Hamner deodorizer he can sprinkle in it but doesn't seem to be helping much.
@sorrycharlie: DH has asthma so he's always turning off my scentsy warmers! Could try your idea, thank you!
@FannyMae: maybe get rid of the farty dog!!! Lol ok I can't do that but seriously the dog has a problem big time!

All great ideas thank ladies! Keep them coming!! Today I bought unscented febreeze & really deep cleaned the kitchen. I do a lot of cooking and someone mentioned cleaning the cooking area where grease may splatter and keep the kitchen smelly. Helped a lot!!! Also I'm gonna keep the trash can & litter box in the garage for awhile until my sensitive sniffer simmers down a bit 😊

Next on the list are some new fall scented candles or essential oils!!

I posted this a few months ago:
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/remove-odor-from-a-home

I bought the Zero Odor product from amazon or bed bath and beyond and I think it helped. Leaving windows open overnight always seems to help too. I did try the lemon-rosemary-vanilla scent, in a crock pot, and it was really lovely and lasted a long time - I moved the small crock pot around to different rooms in the house every few hours and even after I threw the lemons away in the garbage, it smelled really nice for several days every time I opened the cabinet that holds the garbage. Diffusers are a great idea, we never did use one but they sell them at our local Whole Foods along with tons of essential oils.

We use essential oils with reed diffusers - it is a subtle enough scent that I don't generally notice it, but it takes away the dirty nappies/closed up house smell when it's not warm enough to open the windows.

This is what we use:

[attach=1312/15/nuu6hg.475x475.image.jpg]

ETA: our current scent is orchid, coconut, and something else - nice and light for the summer. Will be switching over to a more autumn like scent soon - something with cinnamon!

@ShootingStar: Surprisingly, LO doesn't touch our candles or the scentsy. We emphasized really young when things were hot and kept reinforcing. I think we got lucky in that he has zero interest in touching anything that has a flame. We also have a wood burning fireplace that he could feel the heat from, so that might have helped as well?

As for forgetting, one of us will let the other know that we've lit the candle, and between the two of us, one remembers before we leave the house to blow it out. You could hang something on your doorknob too in order to remind you to check the candles before you leave!

@2PeasinaPod: How do you keep it away from LO or remember to blow it out? DH hates when I light candles because we forget about them.

Generally our biggest offender is the garbage. So I ask DH to take it out :D. I also have a spray I made that deters insects from congregating around the house and it makes things smell good. It's just a big spray bottle filled with water, a couple drops of dawn, and a few drops of essentials oils - I have lavendar and lemon in it. It smells like fresh linen and makes the house smell great when sprayed.

We have a scentsy on our half wall that we use quite a bit and a candle in every bathroom. We also use an air freshener spray each time we change the bag in the diaper genie or take out the trash.

If we're home, the rule is that a candle is lit in the bathroom if someone goes #2. It might not stink to you, but this pregnant lady's sniffer is suffering!

@JH524: places like TJ Maxx and HomeGoods have seasonal scents out right now. I just started burning 'pumpkin spice' and a 'fall harvest' candles... they covered the stink of dishes in the sink, and did so much for my mood.

I find when you burn candles with those types of scents they don't smell as crazy strong as when you just shove your nose in them at the store! So go ahead and pick a scent that just smells 'cozy'!

We've been tossing our stinky trash (like leftover foods, meat bones, leftover scraps of from cutting up veggies, etc.) in the big trash can every night. We tie it up in a baggie, and out it goes. This had made a huge difference for us vs leaving it in our kitchen trash can.

Also washing dishes so there's not residual food sitting the sink overnight helps.

@jh524: seeing as though you've identified the main culprits, can you maybe try moving the litter box to another area (garage? decking?) so that its not inside the house? poopy diapers straight outside (I have a trash can just outside the back door which gets emptied at night), and as for the farty dog, either more time outside or maybe a diet change? otherwise, lots of fresh air/open windows, clean down surfaces post cooking (sometimes its the lingering oil on cooktop/splashback).

gotta say - lighting a candle/diffuser without getting rid of the source sometimes just adds an extra layer to the rest of the odour.
