For now she loves to sit in her high chair and watch me. I sing and she claps and 'sings' along. She's 10 months.

If DH is home, he will entertain LO otherwise I just wait until after I put him to bed to start cooking! That is his fussiest time of day so it's always a challenge when we stay with grandparents who insist on eating dinner super early. One of us has to walk around with DS while the other eats. At home we are so much more relaxed doing everythign after he goes to bed!

She "helps" me cook most of the time, but occasionally I will put her in a pack and play with some bowls and spoons (her favorite toys haha) while I cook.

I gave her a cabinet in the kitchen full of odds and ends so she mostly just mucks about with that.

@Arden: amazing!

Play doh is only allowed in the kitchen at our house. So if DS doesn't want to play by himself, he plays play doh in the kitchen while I cook.

She's in the kitchen with me making a mess and scattering potatoes around. On a good day, she plays nicely on her toy stove and stirs stuff inside her little pots.

@Arden: I love that!

A chair & cooking "tools". He loves to stir an empty pot with a spatula and shake an empty spice container. I also let him nibble on ingredients sometimes.

@Arden: I laughed so hard at this. I don't think it's crazy. You do what you have to. Seeing your LO likes food that way it's pretty crafty and smart!

This is going to sound terrible but... I let her eat off the floor?

Okay, let me explain. I clean my floor everyday, with vinegar, so it is very clean. And for some reason at this stage, she'll eat ANYTHING she finds on the floor - including things she won't TOUCH on her tray. So I "drop" healthy things like broccoli and she gobbles it up and it keeps her busy. And then I feed her things she likes at the meal, like bananas or beets.

I know, I know. I'll work on an alternative method at some point.

Magnatiles! They keep the kids busy for 30-60 minutes while we're prepping dinner and setting the table... they are worth their weight in gold!

The one problem with them is that Charlie will build something and then Olive will knock it down. But in a minor miracle, he's gotten really good at using his words to express his frustration (as opposed to whacking her, which is what he used to do). So Magnatiles still works to keep them busy. And Olive is getting a lot more into building too, which helps a lot!
