I was feeling pretty down lately, because we crossed the threshold of TTC > 6 months (just finished 7th cycle). We saw an RE last week due to some particular concerns in each of our medical histories.

However, most of our concerns so far were not very concerning to the RE and she reinforced that in all likelihood, we would still conceive naturally. We're doing some additional labs, but if all is normal, she wants to see us again at the one year mark.

Long story short, I'm reminding myself that it's not just that we've been TTCing for 7 months, but that we still have 5 more months in which we very likely will become pregnant! It's amazing how reframing that has helped me feel a lot more hope and a lot more excitement.

@As Time Goes By: I am working on this in therapy. To distract myself with something positive and affirming. Most often looking something up is a knee-jerk reaction and then I realize there is something new I don't know about TTC and then I get in a tailspin and before I know it, I am totally entrenched and emotionally exhausted when nothing has even happened. Does this at all sound familiar? I totally admire you for knowing this about yourself and being proactive about not letting yourself get sucked in.

@MrsMccarthy: I totally hear you. The therapist I see is huge into mindfulness. I have put some of what she has taught me into practice but it is so hard when not being in the moment is my normal! I appreciate your insights. I am trying to focus on my honeymoon and having the summer off. I am not going to waste my summer on obsessing over TTC!
@KelLeeLeee: I totally know what you mean. It would work so much better for DH and I if we had a baby in spring and not winter of next year but it's hard to negotiate with the baby fiend inside of me sometimes!

@As Time Goes By: You are so right. I totally acknowledge that I get so much more sucked in when I am looking stuff up and even coming onto HB. It's funny because I feel like I look stuff up with the intention of feeling better about whatever stresses me but it just makes it worse! I need other distractions.

@FaithFertility: You are so right. I could have read ten books or prayed countless prayers with all this obsessing. I keep putting it into God's hands and sometimes, without even knowing it, try to take it back. It belongs in His hands. You got me convicted, girl!

@Radish: I hear you! I have an overly active brain!

Honestly... Stepping away from the internet! I found the more I was looking things up and coming on here the more I thought about it. I've tried putting my phone down at night and enjoy quiet nights with DH.

It also helps that work has gotten busy so I have less time during the day to think about it!

Ditto to what @MrsMccarthy said.
The further along I get in this journey, the more I just WANT to relax. The first couple of months I was SO obsessed, it was all I would think about, and then when AF came I would be absolutely devastated. Right now I am thinking about everything else except TTC, and trying to make myself believe that I wouldn't really want to be in the first trimester in the summer anyway so it's okay if it takes a little longer. Just keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason, and it will all work out in the end. :)

To me it's all about remembering to live in the present as much as possible. I'd say I am able to to so 50 % of the time. Strangely as each month passes I am becoming more lax. I'm trying to enjoy the life that I have and realize that only so much is in my control. It also helps to have time frames in mind for when I plan to make changes, see a doctor or etc. this month I took a break as well and although I do think it might have made chances slimmer for us this month it's totally worth it to have some freedom. I ate a lot of sushi, drank a lot of coffee and wine.

I only started TTC 3 months ago and I have no words of advice but I was honestly shocked at how quickly it consumed my life.

3 months ago I never thought about TTCing, never thought that I would be peeing on sticks all the time or taking my temperature on a daily basis or making sure that DH would be in the mood that night. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be doing those things, I would have thought they were crazy.

I was chill the first month TTC, but when AF arrived I started crying and thinking what if it took me months or years to get pregnant? (Having one ovary made it worse I think)
And now that I got my BFP on cycle 3, you would think I would calm down and go back to my normal life, but nooo, instead my thoughts are consumed with analyzing my symptoms and what if I'll have an MC or ectopic....it's insane.
I just hope that eventually I'll go back to my normal self

What @septca: said about keeping busy is also pretty major for me.

Especially since TTC came right after an unplanned pregnancy and MC for me...I've been digging myself out of a depressed pit the entire time.

So setting goals to do something (anything, even if it's just one thing) when I have significant free time helps me to keep my mind occupied and out of that pit.

It would be SO easy for me to continue to wallow and spend a weekend on the couch, but I've been trying to force myself into an activity or project of some kind even if it's just getting the dishes done (since our dishwasher is broken) or cleaning out a closet.

I think TTCing is really tough for A-types. I want to know everything!!! With that being said TWW is always hardest with me. I tend to over think everything. I have figured out bing tv watching really works well for me... instead of thinking about TWW I am thinking about what will happen next to this character. :D Good luck I hope you don't have to go through maybe more TWWs.

A few things that help...

1. DH and I really don't talk about TTC. He doesn't care about the details, I don't need to spend all my time thinking about it, and talking about TTC is *really* unromantic.

2. I try to keep myself busy doing things that are good for me. Making it to the gym and yoga a few times a week keeps my body and my mental health in check. Focusing on big projects at work keeps me busy.

3. At the beginning of each cycle, I like to set out a list of plans to keep me busy, especially during the TWW. I make plans with friends, plan date nights/weekends away with DH, allow myself little rewards (schedule a massage, get a pedicure, take time to just indulge in a bubble bath with a good book). Having something (even something really little) to look forward to every day or every other day during the TWW really helps. I also like to plan to enjoy at least one thing I can't enjoy pregnant - sushi, oysters, a good deli sandwich, a glass of wine/good cocktail...

Finally, once my cycle regulated and I knew when I would O, when AF was due, etc., it made it much easier for me to relax. This is my 20th cycle total of TTC... and I *know* I O on CD17-18, so I don't start my OPKs until CD15. Until about CD12-13, I just don't think about TTC at all. There is no point.

Honestly, it was really hard for me! My final month was my breaking point where I drank a lot, and just tried to pamper myself. Massages, baths, pedicures, wine.

The first month was tricky because I was just so excited. But as time went on it got easier and easier to not get as excited. I also tried to make lots of plans with friends to see movies, drink, take a new class. Anything to get my mind off of it!

Honestly, DH and I don't talk about it too much at home...so home is sort of my "chill" place where I'm not inundated with it.

At work I'm on a computer all day so I email with buddies and check the boards, but once I get home, I might pee on an OPK but other than that, It's mostly just time to relax.

It might be different because DH also works odd hours (he's in the restaurant industry, so lots of nights and weekends). So while we do talk about it about once a month and make sure we're still on the same page, it's not as though I share every detail and obsession with him.

For us, I think that really helps. And I think it makes the BDing less of a chore because he doesn't feel like we're doing it for the sake of doing it...I just try to go to bed pantsless more often throughout the month :)

Last month was crazy awful because I started off wanting to be chill my first month trying and quickly found myself researching more and more, agonizing over BD plans, researching every nuance on Dr Google, taking apart OPKs so I could get a better view and jumping my husband even when he wasn't into it. Even without my CP, it was a crazy stressful emotional month which I cannot do over and over.

This month, DH and I are trying to be more chill but still effective. However, my natural tendency is to dive in headfirst, so it is a daily struggle to not stress myself out.

Anyway, the title pretty much explains it all, but what do you do to make sure you don't get sucked up into the baby making vortex?
