This chart is recommended a lot around here. It's on the upper end of the range but I wouldn't worry. It's just a guideline. Honestly as long as he isn't spitting up lots then I think it's OK. I would be hesitant to limit his feeds.

@ValentineMommy: 9 oz seems like so much to me! My 4 month old DD can barely finish 4.5 ounces every 3 hours during the day so 9 seems so high! haha

I think you're fine. DD is 4 months old and is on the tiny end of the weight spectrum. She takes 4-4.5 ounce bottles every 3 hours. She cues us when she's full by basically spitting out the nipple or stopping eating. If your little one is chugging the bottles fine I think he's getting what he needs.

You just described DD to a T! She averaged 37–38 ounces of formula a day and rarely ever spit up. The pediatrician has always been thrilled with her growth and has zero concerns about all of her arm, leg, and neck rolls!

15 weeks DS was at 5 feedings a day, 6oz each. He was probably at 28-30oz total a day, but it was 4 bottles of breastmilk and one bottle of formula if that matters. And my son was a long skinny kid with weight gain issues. So 36oz on formula doesn't seem absurd to me.

@wrkbrk: Well, it's preemie formula, which is I think 22 calories when made up according to the can, but my babies are on 24 calories and was suggested that I just add more powder.

@wrkbrk: Do you know where he is on the growth curve? Is he gaining on track? I guess your pediatrician would know. I know ours suggested we stay on the high calorie formula because they weren't gaining enough weight. We've had to increase feedings and waking them up from naps.

As long as they are not spitting up it's fine.

DS would sometimes eat that amount..especially when he hit a growth spurt. I think it is really difficult for babies to get overweight at this age. It is what it is

Yup! As long as he's not spitting up a ton, he should be fine. I think 36oz is the "recommended" max for formula.

By 3 months old, both of my boys were drinking 9oz bottles 4x a day....they were both big babies. Now at 3, DS1 is super skinny, so the rolls are just temporary :)

I would guess that's normal? H was 14lb6oz at 14 weeks.... I don't know about formula amounts but that's an average amount of breastmilk for a day for this age.

If he's spitting up a ton after he eats, then he's probably eating too fast/too much. If he's keeping everything down then he's fine.

I switched to exclusive FF when I returned to work 2 weeks ago. DS is 15 weeks old and I am worried he is eating too much/gaining too much.

I dont know exactly what he weighs but I am guessing over 15 pounds - and he has chubby rolls on his arms and legs that seemed to appear almost overnight! He eats 4-5 ounces every 2-3 hours (except overnight when he goes 8 hours). Yesterday DW wrote it down and it was 36 ounces!!

We see the ped in two weeks but should I call in the meantime? I dont want to not feed him if he is hungry but I wonder if he is not giving the "full" cues or I am missing them?
