This article also has good information on what does NOT indicate low supply.

NOt sure where I first saw this article posted, but it has great info on supposedly low supply:

http://theleakyboob.com/2011/10/help-my-milk-supply-is-low-or-is-it/

I agree that the best and really ONLY indicators are diaper output and weight gain.

I could tell by LO's sucking pattern and the fact she was very fussy and unhappy at the breast, she was also sleeping shorter stretches at night.

Providing you're feeding on demand and eating plenty of calories your supply should be just fine!

@tinyperson: I've never been engorged, never felt my milk come in and have only occasionally leaked although I've been feeling letdown since two weeks post partum.

I can't answer your question, but will say that I never felt my milk come in, never feel my letdowns, and also have been engorged and leaked only a couple of times! All of those things make it easy to doubt supply...

All you can do is look at wet diaper output and weight gain. Those are the best indicators of supply!

I have only been BFing for a week so I hope this isn't a dumb question. People say when they exercise, their simply drops. How do you. Know? Do you only find out when you pump? What if you don't pump? I never felt my milk come in and I don't think I have ever felt a letdown so I am convinced my boobs don't function properly so I am worried that I wouldn't notice if my supply suffered. Thanks!
