I was really sick twice at 12 weeks and 14 weeks (during two different pregnancies). My family around me had the flu, but I didn't get it as bad since I got the flu shot at my first OB appts, both times. I still had horrible symptoms though, just not as bad, but still present. I did develop fevers with the last episode and took Tylenol. I mentioned it to my OB at a reg appt and she didn't give further instructions... It did take about 3 weeks to feel normal again. Rest and drink fluids as much as possible!

With the flu, I had severe body aches, high fever, and zero energy. I had to rest after putting my pants on to go to the doctor. I really hope you don't have it.

@locavore_mama: I think a fever is the major concern if you're pregnant. Make sure you have some Tylenol on hand if you develop a fever so you can keep it down! With that said, I was 5 weeks pregnant when I was sick with something similar to what you're describing! I had a major fever too and I didn't know that fevers weren't good for the baby, so I didn't take anything. Xander turned out just fine though! Hope you feel better soon!!! <3

@locavore_mama: I'd call your regular doctor, not your OB. I hope you feel better soon!

@BabyBoecksMom: I called my OB and talked to a nurse. She was not concerned at all. She didn't even ask me to call back if I get a fever or get worse. I thought it's really dangerous for a pregnant lady to have the flu?!

She just gave some OTC meds I can take and to push fluids.

If I don't feel better tomorrow morning I plan to call back. I want to get in within 48 hours if it is the flu. If not I'll call my PCP.

For me; the easiest way to tell is severe joint pain - body aches. So bad with the flu, yuck.

@locavore_mama: Is there a way you can call your doctor and get checked out today? It sound like it's the flu to me, but if you get to a doctor w/in 48 of symptoms, you can get Tamiflu, which will shorten the severity and time of the flu. I really hope it's just a bad cold or something :-(

I thought I had the flu with vomiting, diarrhea, chills, body aches, sore throat etc but my OB said it was something else going around, most likely. I have no idea how to tell, or how she knew that.

:( If it's the flu you will definitely have a fever eventually, also severe body aches. If you're still feeling badly tomorrow and you think it might be the flu I would call your OB. They can do a rapid test to diagnose.

I"m not sure if Tamiflu is used in pregnancy but at least they could keep a close eye on you if you did have the flu. I hope it's nothing and that you feel better soon!

I am feeling very weak, achey, particularly my lower back, my stomach is also cramping a little and I'm freezing . I have a slight ore sore throat. I'm even considering taking a sick day tomorrow which never happens.

But I don't have a fever.

How do you know if you have the flu? I'm concerned because I'm 6 weeks pregnant.
