No gushing of milk here. Noticed the lump & pain was gone after a good nursing session. Lots of heat, painful massage, and nursing on that side.

Good tips here, including :ahem: some vibration to get rid of the pesky things :)

I get plugged ducts constantly like several per week usually during the overnight when LO sleeps longer. when I feel one I make sure to nurse on that side and massage and push on it as she eats. 99% of the time it gets pulled out this way as the suction combined with the compression does it.

I had a couple hot Epsom salt bath and I think that helped a bunch too. I payed a hot ash cloth over my boobs and massaged.

I've only had one in the very beginning. I knew mine was relieved when milk can squirting out like a water gun. Hear, massage, nursing extra on that side, then finally gently scraping the nipple with my fingernail in the shower did it. I kept massaging the sore area in the shower as it drained. Very satisfying :)

I had blocked ducts several times and the only time I ever got a gush of milk was the one time I had a milk blister and was able to pop it, releasing the flow of milk. Every other time, I knew it was gone once the lump went away and it stopped being excruciating to touch. It would feel sore, but it felt like a bruise whereas when it was plugged, it was a searing pain. A rice sock and DH massaging it, along with pumping, were my fail safe options every time. Blocked ducts suck royally, but if you can get it unplugged now, you should be fine in the morning. Good luck!

I had recurring clogged ducts, but they mostly happened at the very tip of the nipple, and you could see the white dot. In that case, the milk would come gushing out when it cleared. I had another one that was more inside the breast, and that one eventually cleared on its own with lots of massage over a few day period. Hope yours goes away soon!

I never get a big gush of milk. They just kind of disappear. Usually takes a few days, and the pain can last for an additional day or so.

I never felt a big gush of milk but the lump would just be gone. Good luck! They suck. Mine usually take a couple days to go away.

I had a clogged duct, and had a lump close to my armpit.

I nursed then pumped & massaged the clogged duct at the same time. I think my husbands help was involved!

It took a day or two but I noticed that the tenderness and the lump disappeared & milk flowed more freely.

I am pretty sure I have a plugged duct. I haven't ever had one, but this afternoon it started aching a little when M would nurse on my right side. Then I was feeling around to check and I can feel a small lump at the top of my areola (like where the areola meets the rest of my boob). Does this sound like a plugged duct?

The lump is small so I am hoping I caught it early. I just nursed M to sleep on that side and I am now planning to take a hot shower and massage the lump then pump afterwards. How will I know if I got it? Does milk come squirting out? Or will I notice the lump and pain are gone? I really don't want this to turn into mastitis!
