I was just commiserating with another HB mom about this. DS has 1 nap that starts at noon and my aunt's shindig on Christmas day is a luncheon and its a command performance for all the cousins and kids and we only see them once a year. The house will be full of screaming kids and DS will already have a late or missed nap the day before when we fly in so we're pretty worried - he doesn't deal well with no nap.

I think for now we will either wake him up early for the day (ugh) to get him tired earlier than usual, try to get him at least an hour of sleep (his naps run about 2.5-3 hours usually), and then show up a smidge late (like 30 minutes), or we will try to get him to take a carseat nap and hopes he makes it until the luncheon is over before throwing a fit.

We just go with the flow. She will up really late Christmas Eve but it is one night. Hopefully she will just take a good nap on Christmas. She will be up late every night at the IL's cause they make plans late/eat late and then she was having trouble sleeping there over Thanksgiving. Hoping Christmas will be better.

Well, if she stays up late one night, we try to avoid it happening two nights in a row. Otherwise she is beastly. But i've also noticed that if she's playing with her cousins, she's not going to throw big tantrums, even if she's tired, b/c she's having too much fun. So, meh. It's all family events, so they're understanding. We generally leave early if she's just really struggling. But we also show up late to events, in order to let her get her full nap in. If something starts at 2 or 3pm, it's well known that we'll show up around 4pm

We will just go with the flow. It's the first time (with kids) that we will be with family this year and it will be a mad house. I'll let the baby nap on me and just try keep the three-year-old in one piece. It's all about survival.

Mixture of both. I don't freak if their schedule gets pushed a bit (like nap or bedtime an hour late or something). But I don't allow it to get messed with much more than that.

I am that person that left my own daughter's 1 year old birthday party (the family party---but it was extended family and they were all there to see her) an hour early because she was done and ready for bed time. (shrug).

A little of both! They might nap a little later, stay up a little longer, and then lots of finger crosses and hoping everything works out!

Holidays kind of throw a wrench into the everyday life of a child. If your child lives by a routine, how do they handle getting it messed up by holidays? How do you YOU handle that? Do you work around their schedule? Or just hope for the best?
