@mediagirl: hhhmhh.. maybe putting the TV on while she does those things to distract her? I'm cranky in the morning so I would have little shame using Doc McStuffins if it helps me avoid a battle. :silly:

@Truth Bombs: no. She gets up anywhere between 6 and 7am. I get up at 6:20 to get myself ready by 7am. She plays while I finish getting ready. Our routine is the same every.single.day. She just hates getting her teeth and hair brushed and likes to fight me on clothes for fun. My daughter is fully rested and happy to go to school.

Are you having to wake her up? An hour and 25 minutes seems like a lot of time for a toddler to get ready, so I would try to push back her wake up time if you can. My husband and daughter leave the house around 7:45 and she's almost never up before 7. If she does wake up earlier, she watches TV while he finishes getting ready. If she doesn't wake up earlier, all he has to do is put clothes on her (that I left out the night before), brush her hair and teeth, and give her something quick to eat (She eats a full breakfast when she gets to school so he just gives her something to hold her over). She really doesn't fight him because she's well rested and excited to go to school and see her friends.

@sunny: This has been really helpful for us too! I forgot to do it last night, so this morning was ugly...she wanted to wear shorts and a sleeveless shirt. Not gonna happen since they start their day on the playground! Picking out clothes the night before has made the biggest difference of anything I have tried.

@MUI831: What episode is this? I need to get my LO #1 into that one. He's better at getting ready with Daddy's help since I haven't done morning routine much with him after LO #2's arrival.

Getting everything ready the night before is key for us. I wasn't prepared this morning and it showed. When we move to our new house, the mudroom/laundry room has the perfect nook to get everything ready the night before to get us out the door easily.

We've been working on this one. Mainly we just tell her that either she does it (put clothes on, brush teeth, etc), or I'll do it for her - and I mean it! Being the independent girl she is, she doesn't want me to do anything for her so she usually runs and does it

B is only 21 months, but our morning goes a lot more smoothly when my husband and I can get all our stuff done before waking him up. I get up at 5:15, and if he sleeps until 6 then I can get showered, dressed and ready and then I can focus all my attention on giving him cuddles, letting him wake up slowly, and getting him ready for breakfast (once he's in his high chair I'm off to work and he's husband's problem). When he wakes up early it's more complicated because he wants to be picked up, he wants to sit on the counter and play with my makeup brushes, or he wants me to put Sesame Street back on for him because he's touched the screen of the ipad and turned it off.

We started picking out what we'll wear to school the next day and then laying the clothes out on her chair. She knows to expect this now and we have had fewer morning meltdowns about clothing.

I put a TV in our bedroom for exactly this reason. I sit E on our bed and put Peppa Pig on. Then I get ready and get her ready while she watches episodes back to back. Parent of the year award please!

I'd say my morning hardly ever goes smoothly because I feel like I'm constantly running around, but about 50% of the time we get out without tears.

Generally I get up at 6:15 so I can shower and dress before DD gets up around 6:45-7:00. Then it's eating breakfast while watching the news or a show. Changing, feeding and/or giving a bottle to DS. Then start getting DD dressed around 7:30 so there's time to dress, brush teeth and hair, put on shoes, etc before loading everyone into the car.

For me, giving DD warnings ("we're gonna get dressed soon" or "when that show's over we're gonna get dressed") helps. I've also just implemented a positive rewards system where she earns a poker chip for doing things (like dressing, brushing teeth, etc) and when she gets 10 she can pick a "prize."

I'm going to thank Daniel Tiger for this one. If we ever feel like we're getting behind, we start singing the song: Clothes on, eat breakfast, brush teeth, put on shoes and off to school!

We're trying the having him pick out his clothes before bed. Sometimes that works and sometimes not. Honestly, sometimes he just wakes up on the wrong side of the bed.

But yes, do as much as you can at night or wake up early to do it before you wake up the kids.

@mediagirl: For us, it's having enough time to wake up, eat breakfast, watch a show then getting dressed and out the door without having to rush too much. We would definitely have tears if I had to rush him. We give ourself an hour to get ready and get out the door.
If my lo gets fussy and for example, won't get in his car seat, a little tough love and some blueberry puffs do the trick ;)

We just keep it the same every single day. We have time padded in so she can wake up slowly. I get her dressed while she's sitting on the toilet (otherwise, it's a battle). Lastly, I try to remind her about each thing before we move on ... "Okay, after you're done pottying, we're going to go eat our breakfast. Do you think you can find your chair?". Mornings are tough. I feel for you!!

@mediagirl: I do as much as I can ahead of time... sometimes I'll dress my son while he's still waking up and groggy, and I'll brush my daughter's hair at night instead of in the morning! But nothing has helped as much as just waking up earlier ugh...

Meaning - on time and without tears?

We typically have at least one meltdown a morning. We get up at 6:20 and have to be out the door by 7:45. Tears usually happen when our 3 year old realizes that a. she has to get dressed, b. she has to brush her teeth and c. she has to brush her hair.
