I love my Beaba. I use it to make vegetables for my own dinner, so it's paid for itself at least 3 times over.

I love that I can keep it on my limited counter space, we have a big steamer and an immersion blender, which I do use on occasion, but I don't freeze a lot because our freezer is tiny. I prefer to make everything fresh nightly.

I steamed in a reg pot and blended it in a mini-food processor. Also froze in ice cube trays and stored in ziploc bags. I made fairly small batches (1-2 ice cube trays at a time) to make sure they were consumed before freezer burn set in.

we skipped the beaba, too. so happy we did. we just used a steamer basket + blender which we already had. it was all we needed and i cooked about 98% of em's food from scratch. i loved that i could do big batches. i did buy the beaba multi-portion containers. those were the best containers hands down. and we tried several types!

I usually just steam whatever I'm making with my regular 'ol pots & pans, then use my hand blender to puree. Then I freeze in 1oz portions. So far it has worked well with peas, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, and peaches. I also have a food processor I could use, so I don't feel like it's necessary to buy anything else. If you have either of those things maybe you could see if that would work for you?

I started off using the beaba (a friend loaned me hers), but I prefer just using a food processor or blender now. The beaba is small, and it's hard to clean the water reservoir part which gets kind of gross. I steam and purée fruits/veggies and then freeze them into 2oz portions. Super easy.

Rubies, I was pro Beaba and started to buy all the accessories at Pottery Barn/ W. Sonoma -- then I read up on Baby Brezza. Which does the same as Beaba and bought it thru Babies R US. It's a lot cheaper and actually is on sale now.

we had a beaba, but if you have a food processor, a beaba is definitely not necessary. and it does make small quantities so i would steam in a pot and puree in the beaba, which defeats the purpose of it being an all in one machine.

i would puree and then store the food in individual 2 oz containers. i try not to use ziploc bags whenever i can, although that's probably the easiest way to store frozen baby food...

We didn't end up making our own but I seriously considered it for awhile. Smitten Kitchen did a baby food making on her blog. Here is the link to her setup: http://smittenkitchen.com/baby/tools/

We used the Baeba. It did make the process a bit easier since you can steam and puree in it. It is pretty small, though, so you can't make a lot at once. We tended to make big batches since we froze all the food in ice cube trays. Once the food was frozen, we popped it out of the ice cube trays and placed them in labeled ziplock bags in the fridge with the date of expiration (3 months out). And then we would defrost what we needed the night before, mixing and matching all the fruits, veggies, and meats from the various ziplock bags.

I definitely don't think getting the Baeba is a necessity if you don't want to spend the money. You can steam in a regular pot and then puree in a food processor. And our daughter only liked pureed food for about 5 months and then we went to table food so we didn't use it for a long time.

Those who have started on solids, how did you make or prepare your own baby food? I'm thinking of asking for the Beaba Babycook for Christmas assuming it might make the preparation of food just a bit easier. Is it worth it to buy?

How did you make your baby food? Any suggestions?
