Since I live in a walking area, I see people doing this all the time in their double strollers, and they just load up the groceries in the stroller basket and in bags hooked to the mommy hook--and both kids are sitting in the double stroller.

I can fit about 8 bags of groceries on my stroller now (I have two hooks and a huge basket), so I guess I'll do the same.

I shop a lot more often than 2x a month though. If it's only twice a month, maybe you or your hubby can stay home with the kids while the other goes shopping, or you can both go and get 2 separate carts and put a kid in each cart and split the list. Then if you just need 1-2 items between the big shops, you can take both kids and put one in the big basket.

Yes, two is tough but walking trips at easier than car trips I have found. Grocery store is probably a good practice place since you can contain them in a stroller or cart. :)

One place I haven't taken both is the pharmacy! Ours has narrow walkways and I know both kids would be picking at everything as we went looking for our items!

It's painful for us right now. My 3 year old isn't a problem but my 15 month old just doesn't want to sit and she's a bit of a tornado. So I try to put something in her hands to keep her occupied. Sometimes I give her little tasks. But neither one likes being in a cart for very long so it's like herding distracted bunnies with each one wanting to show me what they see. It's not super fun right now but we keep doing it.

Honestly I just don't so errands. I grocery shop on weekends or have DH pick stuff up on the way home from work. We get out a lot...just not to the grocery store. That's not helpful I know. I just wanted to sympathize!

I try to stick to places with carts for two kids if I'm by myself, so target & Costco usually... I always get DS out of the car first and he has to stand by DD's car door right by me while I get her out. Whenever I load back up I leave the kids in the cart while I load the car and then put DS in the car for him to climb in his seat and then put DD in the car seat and come back to buckle DS. I always try to park next to a cart return space so I can just push the cart into the return right by my car.

If you have an Aldi around, their carts have seats for 2, as do Costco and Target...the Target one is suuuuper hard to push, though.

My 4 year old still likes to ride in the cart so they both ride and I talk and hand them stuff to entertain them. Truthfully I try to run most of my errands when my older one is at school or on the weekends or night time but occasionally we need something during the week so we all go. Its a pain and it takes me 10 minutes to load and unload but what can you do

I have one who walks (she's almost 5), one who rides (he is almost three), and wear the other (he just turned 1). If my almost three year old is up for it, I prefer he walks (makes for a better nap!). It might be easier because he just follows his sister, but I don't have much of an issue with running off. In terms of carseats, I have taught the oldest to get in and buckle herself, the middle puts his arms through and does the top buckle. I don't even remember what it is like to run a 5 minute errand in 5 minutes.
I also only do one, MAYBE two, errands a day. That's all we can handle.

Where do you all put your groceries?! We shop twice a month and there is no way a kid is fitting in the back of the cart ;)

I also do one in the seat and one in the cart! It's pretty easy to take them both to places with shopping carts. Bring snacks!

I usually do the "one in the seat, one in the cart" trick like @mrbee does, but I can't do that at Trader Joe's because Char takes up most of the tiny cart! So I wear Harry and plop Char in the seat.

If it's another store that has wider aisles and isn't as hectic, she'll walk next to the cart, and not wander too much, while Harry is in the seat. The only places with double carts we go to is Costco (every other week) and Home Depot (only once in a blue moon, though).

When we go grocery shopping, I stick one in the cart seat and one in the cart itself. Then I hand them groceries to keep them busy!

Other times, I just keep them both in the double stroller whenever possible!

Now that LO2 is out of her infant car seat the thought of running errands is even more dreadful than it was before. I don't baby wear anymore so that idea is out. It's pretty difficult trying to get both of them in and out of wherever we are going, into their car seats, trying to get them both bucked all while trying to freeze them. I've been doing all I can lately to leave them with my mom while I go out, it's just so much easier. I'd like to be able to take them out now and then though when DH is at work all week because we are all feeling cooped up.

Any tips on managing two kids while out and about?
