Thanks everyone! Lots of good input and lots for me to think about. I think I'm going to start by taking everything out of the temporary closet and designating whether it goes in closet or dresser and then see what extra stuff I have that doesn't seem to have an obvious home.

She has a 4 drawer dresser:
Top drawer: Diapers, wipes, sun hats, swim suits, socks, hair accessories, pacifiers, nail clippers, brushes etc
Second drawer: Pajamas and onesies
Third drawer: Clothes that she is in right now.
Bottom drawer: Crib sheets, mattress cover, blankets.

In her closet she has a 4 drawer organizer that we put other odds and ends in. In the top two shelves of her closet we keep diapers, extra wipes, swim diapers etc. Hanging up are her shirts/dresses. We hang most of them up so I can see them all.

We have all the onesies, leggings, socks, and blankets in the dresser, mostly organized by size. Anything that is an outfit is hung up in the closet by size. All her toys are in the bottom drawer of the dresser for now.

Drawer organizers from IKEA are really helpful for things like socks and hats. I will say that my lovingly organized drawers are a disaster zone now.... Between sizes not fitting like they should and the stress of getting her dressed, things got messed up quickly lol!

We have small things in boxes: socks, bibs, burp rags, hats. Then everything else folded by type: onesies, long sleeve, pants, pjs, blankets and towels and cloth diapers. My diapering stuff is just in wall pockets above the changing table. Right now we don't hang anything because I just don't have the hanging room but I imagine we will hang dressy clothes if/when we move.

I did everything by size if it was clothes. I hung very little, like snowsuits and really cute stuff, everything else was folded and organized according to cateogry in a drawer organizer thing I got at IKEA. All onesies together, then socks, then pants, then pajamas, etc. All of the linens were folded and shelved according to category as well, sheets, towels, prefolds, etc.

As he's gotten older it's gotten more chaotic, so we do a system where I set aside 5 outfits for the week in a hanging organizer in his closet. This way he can pick what he wants, within reason.

We have a boy, so I only hung jackets up. If we had a girl, I probably would hang dresses too. I use the skubb storage boxes from Ikea that are in drawers in his wardrobe. They are organized by type of clothing like sleepers, onsies, socks, pants, etc. I had baskets under the changing table. One had diapers, one had burp cloths, & one stored diaper cream, washcloths, lotion, etc. I have a nursery organization post on my blog. my blog is linked in my profile, if you want to check out photos.

DH installed a closet organizer system in his little closet, so there are bars to hang clothes and shelves. I bought dividers off etsy for his hanging clothes (newborn, 0-3 month, 3-6 month, etc). All his outfits are hung, and his shoes are on the shelves, along with hats and other accessories.

I have his pajamas and plain t-shirts in the dresser drawers, along with his mittens, socks and booties. I also have his crib sheets in the bottom dresser drawer.

We're getting our crib and dresser delivered soon (yay!) and we're finishing up moving things around to make room for baby. I'm wondering how other people organize their baby stuff, particularly in the nursery. What do you put in the dresser vs. what do you hang in the closet? What about miscellaneous things like shoes, booties, socks, etc? Is there anything you'd recommend that's helpful, like drawer organizers?

We've got gear coming out of ears, clothes (sleepers, outfits, onesies), swaddle blankets, boppies, first aid kit, grooming kit, toys, activity mat. The list just goes on and on.
